ASHANTI REGIONAL MINISTER JOINS T.I. AHMADIYYA SHS TO CELEBRATE 75 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, joined the chiefs and people of Kumasi to celebrate a major milestone for T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School. The school recently held its 75th Speech and Prize-Giving Day, marking seven and a half decades of providing quality education and promoting peace among students of different faiths.

The event was a grand occasion that saw the presence of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, showing the high respect the school commands in the region. Also in attendance were the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, and leaders from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission. They all came together to honor the school’s long history of producing disciplined and successful citizens who are helping to build Ghana.

In his address, Dr. Frank Amoakohene praised the school for its "Real Amass" spirit and its commitment to religious tolerance. He noted that the school’s legacy of excellence is something the entire region should be proud of. He also assured the school that the government remains fully committed to improving school buildings and making sure that education in the Ashanti Region continues to get better for every student.

The celebration ended with awards for hardworking students and staff. The Regional Minister encouraged the students to stay focused on their books and keep up the high level of discipline the school is known for. It was a day of joy and reflection, proving that T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS remains a shining example of academic and moral success in Ghana.

Today, on behalf of the Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, joined the leadership, faculty, students, and alumni of Kumasi Technical University for their 70th Anniversary celebration.

Under the theme, “70 Years of Transformative Technical Education: Honouring Our Legacy, Shaping the Future,” the occasion reflected on a proud history of excellence in skills development and innovation.

For seven decades, KsTU has trained generations of professionals who continue to drive industry, entrepreneurship, and national development. This contribution remains invaluable.

I commend the leadership of the University for their vision and commitment, and I encourage stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government to address real-time challenges and accelerate development.

I am particularly inspired by the innovative work of students, including collaboration with Kantanka Automobile on a regenerative electric vehicle. This is a strong signal that our local institutions can lead in practical, solution-driven innovation.

As a region, we will continue to engage our technical institutions in areas such as city management.

Congratulations to KsTU on this remarkable milestone. The future is promising.

*Ashanti Regional Minister Launches AshantiFest 2026 in Partnership with MTN Ghana*

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has officially launched AshantiFest 2026, an ambitious multi-sectoral festival aimed at unearthing talent, showcasing the region’s comparative advantages, and driving socio-economic development across sports, tourism, culture, education, trade, and more.

The colourful launch event, sponsored by title sponsor MTN Ghana, brought together dignitaries including Kwamang manhene, Barima Debrah Bediako Boateng II and Nana Yaw Akuoko (Otumfuo Assinhene), Chief Director of ARCC, Members of REGSEC, MMDCEs and other traditional and regional leaders.

In his keynote address, Dr. Amoakohene emphasised that AshantiFest is more than a celebration — it is a strategic platform to discover and nurture home-grown talent while highlighting what makes the Ashanti Region a powerhouse in various sectors.

“Last year’s activities yielded tremendous results,” the Minister noted. He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the government’s budgetary allocation to Kumawood, describing it as a direct outcome of the inaugural AshantiFest. President Mahama recently announced GH¢20 million for the film industry (covering Kumawood and Ghallywood) and another GH¢20 million for broader creative sectors during the 2026 State of the Nation Address.

Dr. Amoakohene highlighted key achievements from the previous edition, including the renovation of the male ward at Kumasi Central Prisons, made possible through sponsor support. He announced that the same sponsor has committed to renovating the female ward this year.

An ongoing inter-district soccer competition, part of efforts to unearth football talent, is expected to identify promising players who will be nurtured into a competitive team representing the region.

This year’s festival will feature a wide range of cross-sectoral activities, including a major trade exhibition designed to boost commerce, attract investment, and promote local entrepreneurship.

The Regional Minister extended an open invitation for partnerships, stating that his office is ready to collaborate with individuals, organisations, and corporate bodies willing to support initiatives that will make the Ashanti Region greater.

“AshantiFest is open to all who share our vision of excellence and progress,” he said.

The launch marks the beginning of what promises to be an even more impactful edition of AshantiFest in 2026, building on the momentum and tangible successes of the maiden event.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, was honoured to receive the executives of the Ghana Society of Cardiology during a courtesy call at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council. Our discussions focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving specialized health delivery across the region.

A key highlight was the ongoing construction of the state-of-the-art Cath Lab at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital under the MahamaCare initiative, led by Hon. Obuobia Darko-Opoku This cutting-edge facility, the first of its kind in the Ashanti Region, will significantly enhance cardiovascular diagnosis, intervention, and intensive care, and help reduce preventable deaths from heart disease.

I expressed my sincere appreciation to H.E. the President John Dramani Mahama for his visionary leadership and the MahamaCare programme, which is transforming access to specialized healthcare. Through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Government (GMTFUND) is playing a pivotal role in strengthening healthcare delivery, similar to how GETFund has transformed infrastructure and access within the education sector.

I was also deeply grateful to receive a plaque of recognition on behalf of the FrankCare Foundation for our partnership with the Society during last year’s World Hypertension Day. This recognition reinforces our shared commitment to public education, prevention, and improving cardiovascular health outcomes.

Together, we remain committed to building a stronger, healthier Ashanti Region through strategic partnerships and sustained investment in healthcare.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene met with the Site Advisory Team to review and approve the land acquisition plan for Phase One of the Outer Kumasi Ring Road project.

This phase covers approximately 47 kilometres of dual carriageway, beginning from Etia in theJuaben municipal just after Ejisu and ending at Buoho in Afigya Kwabre South District. The project is designed to divert traffic from the central business area of Kumasi, reduce congestion, and provide a dedicated bypass for heavy duty trucks travelling to the northern parts of Ghana and neighbouring countries.

This strategic infrastructure will improve safety, shorten travel time, enhance trade and logistics, and support economic growth across the Region.

We remain committed to delivering modern road networks that ease movement, open up communities, and accelerate development for our people.
