NANDOM MUNICIPALITY’S BEST BECE CANDIDATE FOR 2026, MAASOFAAR LUCIOUS, RECEIVES GH₵10,000 SUPPORT FROM MP

Nandom Municipality proudly celebrates Maasofaar Lucious, the outstanding 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate who emerged as the best-performing student in the municipality with an impressive aggregate score of 11.

Maasofaar Lucious, a proud product of Tome Roman Catholic Junior High School (JHS), has distinguished himself through academic excellence, hard work, dedication, and determination. His remarkable achievement is a source of pride to his family, school, teachers, and the entire Nandom Municipality.

Following his excellent performance, Maasofaar has gained admission to Nandom Senior High School (SHS), where he is expected to continue his educational journey and build on the strong academic foundation he has established.

In recognition of his outstanding achievement and to support his continued education, the Member of Parliament for Nandom Constituency, Hon. Richard Kuuire, has extended financial support to the young scholar in the amount of GH₵10,000 (Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis).

This generous gesture is expected to contribute towards his educational needs and ease some of the financial burdens associated with his continued studies. It also serves as an encouragement to Maasofaar to remain focused on his academic ambitions and strive for even greater accomplishments.

CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING FOR PRCC MEMBERS AND STAFF OF THE NANDOM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The Nandom Municipal Assembly has organised a training session for members of the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) and other staff of the Assembly on the core mandate of the PRCC.

The training was facilitated by a representative from the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of the Committee’s roles and responsibilities in promoting effective communication, addressing public complaints, and enhancing relations between the Assembly and the public.

The session was graced by the participation of MCE Hon. Anthony Ziniel and MCE Alhaji Mohammed Awolu, underscoring the importance of building institutional capacity to promote transparency, accountability, and effective local governance.

The training is expected to equip participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to improve public engagement, strengthen complaint-handling mechanisms, and ensure effective communication between the Assembly and the people of Nandom Municipality.

POTHOLE FILLING EXERCISE IN NANDOM MUNICIPALITY

The Nandom Municipalily has received its share of pothole-filling works on some major roads within the Municipality as part of efforts to improve road conditions, enhance road safety and ease the movement of people and goods.

The exercise is aimed at curtailing the deteriorating condition of the roads, reducing road accidents, and minimising vehicle breakdowns and damage caused by potholes.

During the exercise, chippings mixed with bitumen material are being used to fill and reinforce the affected portions of the road. This method is expected to provide a stronger and more durable surface, helping the repaired sections withstand vehicular traffic and weather conditions for a longer period.

The Assembly remains committed to closely monitoring the project to ensure that quality work is delivered and the required standards are maintained.

NANDOM MP, HON. DR. RICHARD KUUİRE, SUPPORTS SELECTED BENEFICIARIES UNDER THE MP COMMON FUND

The Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency, Hon. Dr. Richard Kuuire, has provided financial support to selected beneficiaries in the Nandom Municipality under the MP Common Fund.

The cheques were presented to the beneficiaries as part of efforts to provide financial assistance to constituents and support their various socio-economic needs.

A total amount of GH¢282,000.00 was distributed to the selected beneficiaries.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Ziniel, together with other stakeholders, witnessed the presentation and commended the initiative aimed at supporting constituents and contributing to their socio-economic well-being.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to Hon. Dr. Richard Kuuire, MP for Nandom, for the support and pledged to utilise the funds for their intended purposes.

TRAINING OF CHIEFS, QUEEN MOTHERS AND OPINION LEADERS ON GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN THE NANDOM MUNICIPALITY

On 17th September 2026, Chiefs, Queen Mothers and Opinion Leaders in the Nandom Municipality participated in a training program on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as part of the implementation of the PMI WILL Project.

The training brought together traditional and community leaders to deepen their understanding of gender-based violence, its causes, effects, and the important role traditional authorities can play in preventing and responding to GBV within their communities.

The engagement also provided a platform for participants to discuss practical ways of promoting gender equality, protecting vulnerable persons, supporting survivors, and strengthening community mechanisms for addressing GBV.

Traditional leaders remain important voices in community development, and their commitment and leadership can contribute significantly to creating communities where women, girls, and all members of society can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunities.

The Nandom Municipal Assembly, through its collaboration with partners under the PMI WILL Project, continues to support community-level interventions aimed at promoting inclusive development, gender equality, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

NANDOM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HANDS OVER DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS TO BENEFICIARY COMMUNITIES.

The Nandom Municipal Assembly has successfully handed over a number of completed development projects to beneficiary communities as part of efforts to improve access to essential social services and infrastructure across the Municipality. The handing-over ceremonies were held on 15th and 16th September 2026 and brought together the Member of Parliament for the Nandom Municipality, Dr. Richard Kuuire, the Municipal Chief Executive and staff of the Nandom Municipal Assembly, the Ghana Education Service Director, the Health Director, the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies, chiefs and elders of the beneficiary communities, school pupils, and other concerned citizens.

The projects handed over covered important sectors including healthcare, education, water and sanitation, and community security. The health-related projects included CHPS compounds constructed for the communities of Tokuu and Bapula. These facilities are expected to bring basic healthcare services closer to residents and improve access to primary healthcare, particularly for women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable members of the communities.

In the area of security, a Police Post was constructed at Kokoligu and formally handed over to the community. The facility is expected to strengthen the presence and accessibility of security services in Kokoligu and surrounding communities and support efforts to maintain peace and security within the Municipality.

The Assembly also handed over two-unit Kindergarten blocks at Zimuopare, Ko-Bukong, and Betaglu. The facilities are expected to provide a more conducive learning environment for children and support the delivery of quality early childhood education. In addition, a Junior High School block was handed over at Monyupelle to improve access to basic education and provide a suitable environment for teaching and learning.

To improve access to potable water, five mechanized pumps were provided at Goziir Nuruyir, Bu, Tuopare, Tankyaraa, and Kusiele. Ten additional hand pumps were also provided at Bu, Bapula, Kokoligu, Kuutuuryir, Betaglu, Taayaga, Tokuu, Ginugangn, Dabagteng, and Vapuo. These water facilities are expected to reduce the difficulties residents face in accessing potable water and contribute to improved hygiene, sanitation, and general well-being in the beneficiary communities.

The handing-over ceremonies provided an opportunity for the Municipal Assembly and its development partners to interact directly with the beneficiary communities and explain the importance of the projects. The participation of the Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, heads of government departments, security agencies, traditional authorities, school pupils, and community members demonstrated the collective commitment of stakeholders towards the development of the Nandom Municipality.

The beneficiary communities were encouraged to take ownership of the facilities, use them responsibly, and ensure their proper maintenance. Community members were also urged to work closely with the relevant government institutions and the Municipal Assembly to protect the facilities from vandalism and ensure that they continue to serve their intended purposes.

The Nandom Municipal Assembly appreciates the participation and support of all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the handing-over ceremonies. The Assembly remains committed to working with traditional authorities, government institutions, development partners, and communities to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life of the people of Nandom Municipality.

200 Student Desks Handed Over to Schools in Nandom Municipality

Yesterday, 11th August 2026, the Nandom Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anthony Ziniel handed over 200 student desks to the Ghana Education Service (GES) Directorate for distribution to selected schools within the Nandom Municipality.
Speaking during the handover, the MCE stated that the 200 desks form part of a total of 1,000 desks being provided to schools in the Municipality. He explained that the remaining 800 desks are expected to arrive and will subsequently be distributed to beneficiary schools.
The 200 desks currently available have been allocated as follows:
• St. Andrews JHS – 50 desks
• Red Cross Basic School – 30 desks
• St. Cecilia Primary Block A – 60 desks
• Monyupelle JHS – 60 desks
The intervention forms part of efforts by the Nandom Municipal Assembly to address furniture shortages in schools and provide pupils with a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Hon. Anthony Ziniel reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to supporting quality education and improving the learning conditions of pupils across the Municipality.

DRIP Coordinator Commences Pothole Patching Exercise to Improve Road Safety in Nandom

As part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and ensure the safety of road users, the DRIP Coordinator, with the full support of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has commenced the patching of dangerous potholes on selected roads within the Nandom Municipality.

The initiative seeks to improve the movement of motorists, reduce the risk of road accidents, and enhance access to communities and businesses. The exercise forms part of the Assembly's commitment to maintaining critical road networks and providing safer, more reliable transportation for residents.

The Nandom Municipal Assembly remains committed to improving infrastructure and will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to address challenges affecting the municipality's road network for the benefit of all.

Nandom Municipal Assembly Commissions and Hands Over New Office Complex for Health and Agriculture Directorates

Nandom, Ghana | 16th June 2026.

As part of its commitment to improving public sector infrastructure and enhancing service delivery, the Nandom Municipal Assembly has officially handed over a newly completed 10-unit office complex with a conference hall to the Municipal Health Directorate and the Department of Agriculture.

The modern facility, strategically located at Danko, behind the Assembly Block, was constructed and fully furnished through funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund – Responsive Factor Grant (DACF-RFG).

The project is expected to provide a conducive working environment for staff, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the delivery of essential health and agricultural services to communities across the municipality.

The handover ceremony, held on 16th June 2026, marks another milestone in the Assembly's efforts to invest in infrastructure that supports sustainable local development and quality public service.

The new office complex features well-equipped workspaces designed to promote collaboration, productivity, and professionalism, ensuring that both departments are better positioned to meet the needs of residents.

Nandom Municipal Assembly Holds First Ordinary Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth Assembly.

The Nandom Municipal Assembly on Monday, 15th June 2026, held the First Ordinary Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth Assembly at the Assembly Conference Hall in Danko. The meeting brought together Assembly Members, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Heads of Departments, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on matters affecting the development of the Municipality.

The sitting was chaired by the newly elected Presiding Member, Hon. Sagraza George, who urged members to remain committed representatives of their communities and to contribute constructively to discussions.

Key Issues Discussed

Motorbike Acquisition for Assembly Members
Members received updates on the ongoing process for the acquisition of motorbikes for Assembly Members. The Municipal Chief Executive indicated that the Assembly was awaiting delivery after the submission of the required list of beneficiaries.

Security Concerns and Police Checkpoints

The Assembly discussed the need for a police checkpoint at Dang-Gbal and Zimuopare to improve security. While acknowledging challenges relating to inadequate personnel and logistics, the Assembly called for intensified police patrols as an interim measure.

LEAP Programme Validation

Members reviewed concerns regarding the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) validation exercise. Discussions focused on correcting inaccuracies in household data and ensuring that only genuinely vulnerable households benefit from the programme.

Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and ensuring that public institutions and opportunities remain accessible to all residents.

Revenue Mobilization and Ex-Gratia Payments

The Municipal Chief Executive emphasized the need to strengthen internally generated revenue to support development projects and meet obligations such as ex-gratia payments. Members were encouraged to support revenue mobilization efforts, particularly in areas such as property rates, cattle rates, and gravel pit levies.
Sanitation and Environmental Management
Members discussed sanitation challenges across the Municipality, including waste management, public participation in sanitation exercises, and the condition of public facilities. The Assembly also encouraged residents to actively participate in National Sanitation Day activities.

Road Infrastructure and DRIP Operations

The Assembly reviewed the operation of District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines and challenges associated with road maintenance due to limited funding. Concerns were raised about the condition of several roads, including the Nabugangn Road.

Municipal Chief Executive's Address

In accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the Municipal Chief Executive delivered an address covering key thematic areas, including:

Education and Security.

Members discussed staff attrition within the education sector and welcomed government's decision to decentralize teacher recruitment, which is expected to improve teacher retention in the Municipality.
The Assembly also expressed concern over the increasing incidence of underage riding of motorbikes. Members supported stricter enforcement of existing by-laws, with road safety enforcement operations scheduled to commence on 1st July 2026.

Agricultural Development.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture briefed the Assembly on the state of agriculture within the Municipality. He highlighted challenges relating to limited tractor availability and provided updates on agricultural input distribution and the Savannah Agriculture and Value Chain Development Project (SADEP), through which over 1,700 bags of seed have been distributed to approximately 400 farmers.

Commitment to Community Development.

In his closing remarks, the Presiding Member urged Assembly Members to communicate the outcomes of the meeting to their constituents and to continue educating residents on the importance of paying taxes and supporting local development initiatives.

The meeting ended successfully with renewed commitment from members to work collectively towards improving service delivery and accelerating development across the Nandom Municipality.
