Nandom Municipal Assembly Holds First Ordinary Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth Assembly.
The Nandom Municipal Assembly on Monday, 15th June 2026, held the First Ordinary Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth Assembly at the Assembly Conference Hall in Danko. The meeting brought together Assembly Members, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Heads of Departments, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on matters affecting the development of the Municipality.
The sitting was chaired by the newly elected Presiding Member, Hon. Sagraza George, who urged members to remain committed representatives of their communities and to contribute constructively to discussions.
Key Issues Discussed
Motorbike Acquisition for Assembly Members
Members received updates on the ongoing process for the acquisition of motorbikes for Assembly Members. The Municipal Chief Executive indicated that the Assembly was awaiting delivery after the submission of the required list of beneficiaries.
Security Concerns and Police Checkpoints
The Assembly discussed the need for a police checkpoint at Dang-Gbal and Zimuopare to improve security. While acknowledging challenges relating to inadequate personnel and logistics, the Assembly called for intensified police patrols as an interim measure.
LEAP Programme Validation
Members reviewed concerns regarding the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) validation exercise. Discussions focused on correcting inaccuracies in household data and ensuring that only genuinely vulnerable households benefit from the programme.
Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities
The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and ensuring that public institutions and opportunities remain accessible to all residents.
Revenue Mobilization and Ex-Gratia Payments
The Municipal Chief Executive emphasized the need to strengthen internally generated revenue to support development projects and meet obligations such as ex-gratia payments. Members were encouraged to support revenue mobilization efforts, particularly in areas such as property rates, cattle rates, and gravel pit levies.
Sanitation and Environmental Management
Members discussed sanitation challenges across the Municipality, including waste management, public participation in sanitation exercises, and the condition of public facilities. The Assembly also encouraged residents to actively participate in National Sanitation Day activities.
Road Infrastructure and DRIP Operations
The Assembly reviewed the operation of District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines and challenges associated with road maintenance due to limited funding. Concerns were raised about the condition of several roads, including the Nabugangn Road.
Municipal Chief Executive's Address
In accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the Municipal Chief Executive delivered an address covering key thematic areas, including:

• Disbursement of the Persons with Disabilities Fund
The Assembly subsequently adopted the address for discussion and further consideration.
Education and Security.
Members discussed staff attrition within the education sector and welcomed government's decision to decentralize teacher recruitment, which is expected to improve teacher retention in the Municipality.
The Assembly also expressed concern over the increasing incidence of underage riding of motorbikes. Members supported stricter enforcement of existing by-laws, with road safety enforcement operations scheduled to commence on 1st July 2026.
Agricultural Development.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture briefed the Assembly on the state of agriculture within the Municipality. He highlighted challenges relating to limited tractor availability and provided updates on agricultural input distribution and the Savannah Agriculture and Value Chain Development Project (SADEP), through which over 1,700 bags of seed have been distributed to approximately 400 farmers.
Commitment to Community Development.
In his closing remarks, the Presiding Member urged Assembly Members to communicate the outcomes of the meeting to their constituents and to continue educating residents on the importance of paying taxes and supporting local development initiatives.
The meeting ended successfully with renewed commitment from members to work collectively towards improving service delivery and accelerating development across the Nandom Municipality.
