The Sekyere Central District Assembly today observed National Sanitation Day with a clean-up exercise in the Beposo Township.

Organised by the District Environmental Health Unit, the event saw residents join forces to tidy up key locations within the community.

Special appreciation goes to Management Members of the Assembly, Nananom of the Beposo Traditional Council, Members of the Beposo Town Council, and all patrons who contributed to the success of the exercise.

馃搶馃摙: SEKYERE CENTRAL DISTRICT AIDS COMMITTEE INAUGURATED TO CHAMPION HIV RESPONSE

The Ghana AIDS Commission on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026, officially inaugurated a nine-member District Committee for the Sekyere Central District to strengthen the local governance and coordination of the HIV and AIDS response.

The ceremony, held at the District Assembly鈥檚 Conference Hall in Nsuta, was facilitated by the Technical Support Unit of the Ghana AIDS Commission. The Very Reverend K. A. Acheampong, a member of the Regional Committee of the Ghana AIDS Commission, administered the oath of office and delivered the inaugural address on behalf of the Regional Minister.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the newly inaugurated members participated in an orientation session designed to equip them with the necessary knowledge and tools to execute their mandate effectively.

The committee is tasked with spearheading multisectoral efforts to combat the spread of HIV within the Sekyere Central District, ensuring the implementation of national strategies at the local level.

The Sekyere Central District Assembly successfully held its Special Meeting today to elect a Presiding Member for the 5th Assembly.

Hon. Lawrence Boakye Boateng was elected to the position, receiving 34 out of 34 valid votes cast. As a seasoned member of the Assembly, Hon. Boakye Boateng brings extensive experience to the office, having previously served as Presiding Member.

In his acceptance remarks, he thanked the General Assembly for their unanimous support and pledged to champion the district鈥檚 development agenda in collaboration with all members.

馃摙馃搶: DCE ENGAGES COCOA FARMERS AND INSPECTS PROJECTS IN BONKWAEM

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah undertook a working visit to Bonkwaem, a key cocoa-growing community in the district, to strengthen government-citizen engagement and assess the progress of local development projects.

During a pivotal meeting with farmers, Hon. Somuah addressed recent adjustments in cocoa prices, acknowledging the concerns raised by the farmers. He reassured them of the government's steadfast dedication to stabilizing the sector and safeguarding the interests of cocoa farmers.

The DCE encouraged the farmers to uphold high standards of production and to collaborate closely with agricultural extension officers. He emphasized that leveraging technical expertise is crucial for improving crop yields and ensuring long-term productivity.

Beyond the agricultural dialogue, the DCE inspected a newly drilled borehole for the community. He reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to expanding access to safe and reliable drinking water, alongside improving sanitation infrastructure in rural areas.

Addressing logistical challenges, Hon. Somuah outlined the Assembly's initiatives to improve road networks within Bonkwaem and its surrounding areas. He stressed that better roads are essential for reducing post-harvest losses and facilitating access to markets and essential services.

In an engagement with staff at the Bonkwaem community school, the DCE listened to their concerns, particularly regarding the lack of accommodation. He assured the teachers of construction of suitable housing for educators in rural communities as a top priority for the Assembly.

Demonstrating inclusivity, Hon. Somuah concluded his visit with a donation to the local Muslim community to support their observances during the holy month of Ramadan. Community leaders expressed their appreciation, describing the gesture as a reflection of unity and compassion within the district.

Accompanied by the District NADMO Director, Hon. Abudu Musah, the visit was met with profound gratitude from community members, who praised the Assembly鈥檚 responsive leadership and its unwavering commitment to grassroots development.

馃搶馃摙: DCE PRESENTS CLASSROOM FURNITURE TO DISTRICT EDUCATION DIRECTORATE

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Samuel Somuah, earlier today, presented essential classroom furniture to the District Education Directorate for distribution to some selected schools. The donation included 145 dual desks, 30 kindergarten hexagonal tables and chairs, and 20 sets of tables and chairs for teachers.

Hon. Somuah underscored the government's dedication to eradicating the "no desk" syndrome in public schools by funding the regular procurement of desks to enhance teaching and learning conditions. He reiterated the government's continued support to address educational challenges and improve standards in the district.

In response, the District Director of Education, Mr. Kwame Addo thanked the District Assembly for the priority given to school infrastructure, particularly for communities in the Afram Plains area. He urged beneficiary schools to maintain the items diligently to ensure long-term impact.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah, accompanied by Nana Debrah Bediako Boateng II (Omanhene and President of the Kwamang Traditional Council), led a delegation to inspect the progress of key infrastructure projects. The delegation, which included Nananom, Members of the Kwamang Town Council, and various Departmental Heads, assessed the ongoing expansion works on the Nsuta-Kwamang road and the construction of several inner roads within the Kwamang township.

In a statement to the media, the Hon. DCE commended the contractor for the work accomplished thus far. He emphasized the importance of sustaining high-quality standards to ensure the projects' durability and long-term value.

He further reiterated the government's dedication to completing all previously stalled projects, ensuring citizens derive their full benefit. The DCE assured Nananom of the government's commitment to fulfilling this mandate.

Nana Debrah Bediako Boateng II, in his remarks, applauded the significant progress observed and expressed the Traditional Council's gratitude to the government for its steadfast commitment to completing the projects. He highlighted that these infrastructure improvements are vital for enhancing the economic livelihoods of the community.

The Omanhene also urged the contractor to maintain the current pace and standard of work, with particular emphasis on the timely completion of the town roads, especially those providing access to the Kwamang Presby Senior High/Tech School.

馃搶馃摙: OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF CHICKS DISTRIBUTION IN THE SEKYERE CENTRAL DISTRICT UNDER GOVERNMENT'S "NKOK茊 NKET茞NKET茞" PROGRAMME

The distribution of chicks under the Government's "Nkok蓴 Nket蓻nket蓻" poverty alleviation programme commenced today at the district's designated poultry farm in Sekyere Beposo.

In his address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah emphasized that the programme, introduced by the government, represents an innovative measure to combat poverty by enabling households to engage in poultry farming for economic empowerment. He urged all beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity fully to derive maximum benefit from the initiative.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Michael Konadu further advised beneficiaries to adhere to recommended poultry farming practices to ensure the health and sustainability of their flocks. He assured participants that Agricultural Extension Officers would conduct regular monitoring visits to provide ongoing support and track the progress of the farms.

The "Nkok蓴 Nket蓻nket蓻" programme is designed to bolster household incomes and enhance food security through sustainable agricultural development.
