NCCE Sensitises the Public and SHS Freshers on Constitutional Duties
The Ellembelle District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has sensitised first-year Senior High School (SHS) students on their constitutional duties as citizens, with emphasis on the protection of public property and safeguarding the environment.
The sensitisation programme was held on the West End Radio 100.3 FM Morning Show at Nkroful on 25 September 2026 and targeted the general public and students. The programme was led by Mr. Samuel Aibi, Acting Director of the Ellembelle District Office, with Mr. Salifu Yaro – Principal Civic Education Officer participating in the discussion.
The discussion focused on Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution, particularly Article 41(f), which requires citizens to protect and preserve public property and expose and combat the misuse and waste of public funds and property.
Students were reminded that school infrastructure, textbooks, furniture and items provided under the Free SHS programme are public property funded from national resources. They were therefore encouraged to protect school facilities, avoid vandalism, report theft and misuse of public property, and avoid wasting water, electricity and food.
The programme also highlighted Article 41(k), which enjoins every citizen to protect and safeguard the environment. Students were encouraged to keep their dormitories, classrooms and school compounds clean, practise proper waste disposal, participate in communal cleaning exercises, keep gutters free from refuse and protect trees and other vegetation.
The NCCE emphasised that responsible citizenship begins with individual actions. Students were encouraged to recognise that their constitutional responsibilities extend beyond the classroom and that protecting public property and the environment contributes to effective teaching and learning as well as national development.
The engagement formed part of the NCCE's civic education efforts to promote responsible citizenship and equip young people with knowledge of their constitutional duties.
