Bono East Region Produces the National Best Inland Fisher

Bono East Region joined the rest of the country to mark the 41st National Farmers’ Day under the theme “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.” The celebration recognized the critical contribution of the fisheries sector, particularly inland fishing and aquaculture, to food security, employment, and livelihoods across the region.

This year’s awards highlighted excellence in sustainable fishing practices and aquaculture production, reflecting the growing importance of inland fisheries in national development

The Region produced the National Best Inland Fisher for 2025 in the person of Mr. Kofi Adukpo, a recognition of long-standing commitment to responsible inland fishing. Mr. Adukpo has over 57 years of experience in inland fishing and operates ten canoes, providing direct employment to more than 20 workers. His fishing operations record an average daily catch of 18 crates, demonstrating consistency and productivity over several decades.

Importantly, his activities comply fully with fisheries regulations, and he is not engaged in Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated fishing practices. Beyond his personal enterprise, he continues to advocate for increased government attention to inland fisheries, particularly in areas of infrastructure development, gear support, and policy focus. His recognition at the national level underscores the vital role inland fishers play in Ghana’s food system and rural economy

In recognition of his achievement, the National Best Inland Fisher received the following awards: a double cabin pickup truck, one packet of fishing twine, one fishing rope, one 1.5HP outboard motor, 25 pieces of floats, and two boxes of spools

Congratulations Mr. Kofi Adukpo on attaining such honourable recognition.
