INAUGURATION OF THE DISTRICT DISASTER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
District: Wa East – Funsi

Opening
The meeting commenced with an opening prayer, followed by an introduction of members present.
Remarks by the District Chief Executive:
The District Chief Executive for Wa East, Hon. Adamu Shaibu, who also chairs the District Disaster Management Committee, addressed the gathering and raised the following points:
•NADMO has become a critical organisation in the fight against disasters.
•The Committee is expected to develop modalities for disaster preparedness.
•Collaboration between NADMO and the District Assembly is crucial, particularly regarding funding.
•He stressed the importance of members attending meetings regularly.
Oath of Secrecy and Inauguration:
The Oath of Secrecy was administered to committee members, who were then formally inaugurated by the Regional Director of NADMO, CDCO Osman Abdul-Latif Sinsew.
Remarks by the Regional Director:
•In his address, the Regional Director:
Admonished committee members to familiarize themselves with the NADMO Act, 2016 (Act 927), to help them understand their duties.
•Urged the Committee to identify solutions to disasters in the district.
•Called on the District Assembly to support the Committee with funds to facilitate its work.
•Tasked committee members to coordinate their respective expertise in fighting disasters.
•Reminded members that NADMO, as an organisation, remains under-resourced, making community mobilization and support essential for effective disaster management.
Other Concerns Raised:
•Sensitization and public education were identified as key to mitigating disasters in the district.
•The Committee should be proactive rather than reactive.
•There is a need to prepare a Disaster Preparedness Plan tailored to community needs.
Closing:
The meeting was brought to a close with a prayer for guidance and purpose, offered by a member of the committee.
