INAUGURATION OF THE DISTRICT DISASTER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Opening
The meeting commenced with an opening prayer, followed by an introduction of members present.
Remarks by the District Chief Executive:
The District Chief Executive for Wa East, Hon. Adamu Shaibu, who also chairs the District Disaster Management Committee, addressed the gathering and raised the following points:
•NADMO has become a critical organisation in the fight against disasters.
•The Committee is expected to develop modalities for disaster preparedness.
•Collaboration between NADMO and the District Assembly is crucial, particularly regarding funding.
•He stressed the importance of members attending meetings regularly.
Oath of Secrecy and Inauguration:
The Oath of Secrecy was administered to committee members, who were then formally inaugurated by the Regional Director of NADMO, CDCO Osman Abdul-Latif Sinsew.
Remarks by the Regional Director:
•In his address, the Regional Director:
Admonished committee members to familiarize themselves with the NADMO Act, 2016 (Act 927), to help them understand their duties.
•Urged the Committee to identify solutions to disasters in the district.
•Called on the District Assembly to support the Committee with funds to facilitate its work.
•Tasked committee members to coordinate their respective expertise in fighting disasters.
•Reminded members that NADMO, as an organisation, remains under-resourced, making community mobilization and support essential for effective disaster management.
Other Concerns Raised:
•Sensitization and public education were identified as key to mitigating disasters in the district.
•The Committee should be proactive rather than reactive.
•There is a need to prepare a Disaster Preparedness Plan tailored to community needs.

*Hon. Dr. Jasaw Empowers NADMO Ahead of Wa Naa Peace Games*

In a show of support for sports and community unity, the Member of Parliament for Wa East, Hon. Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has donated a full set of sports jerseys and high-quality footballs to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Wa East.

The presentation is aimed at strengthening NADMO’s team as they prepare for the Wa Naa Inter-Security Peace and Unity Games. By backing their participation, Hon. Jasaw highlighted the power of sports to build camaraderie, boost physical readiness, and deepen peace and collaboration among security and emergency services in the municipality.

Receiving the items, Regional NADMO Director Mr. Osman Abdul Latif Sinsew and his management team expressed heartfelt appreciation. They commended the MP for his consistent dedication to youth development and peacebuilding, noting that the timely donation has energized the squad and significantly lifted team morale ahead of the tournament.

*Donation to NADMO Upper West Ahead of Wa Naa Inter-Security Peace Games*

In the early hours of Thursday, 21st May 2026, the Wa West Constituency Office, led by Hon. Stephen Aseon Dari Wullah and Ibrahim Majeed (Tsatsu), presented a full set of jerseys and a football to NADMO Upper West in support of the upcoming Wa Naa Inter-Security Peace Games.

The donation was made on behalf of the Hon. Member of Parliament, Peter Lanchene Toobu. It reflects a direct commitment to the national agenda of strengthening institutional peace, fostering unity, and driving grassroots development.

Receiving the items, the Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Osman Abdul-Latif Sinsew, expressed sincere appreciation for the MP’s prompt and thoughtful intervention, noting that the response came despite the short notice. Opening Fixtures of the Wa Naa Games

The highly anticipated Wa Naa Games officially commenced yesterday with an opening-day face-off between the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS). The headline football match heavily favored a disciplined GIS side, who established early dominance by breaking the deadlock in the first half. Seeking an equalizer after the interval, NADMO mounted several offensive charges, but their attempts on target ultimately proved slim and futile against a resolute immigration defense. The definitive blow came in the 69th minute when GIS launched a swift, clinical counter-attack that left the NADMO backline completely outplayed and stunned to double the lead. NADMO's comeback hopes plummeted entirely late in the match after a disciplinary infraction resulted in a red card, forcing them to finish one man down.
This demoralizing defeat on the football pitch severely impacted NADMO's morale heading into the Tug of Peace competition. Capitalizing on their momentum, the Ghana Immigration Service swept both the male and female categories, leveraging superior physical conditioning against a deflated NADMO lineup. In post-match assessments, the NADMO directorate acknowledged the stark gap in stamina and match fitness between the two services, noting that the squad will require a rigorous, scaled-up exercise regimen to compete effectively in the remainder of the games

INAUGURATION OF DISTRICT DISASTER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The meeting commenced with an opening prayer and a warm welcome address by the Chairman who is also the District Chief Executive. In his opening remarks, the Chairman emphasized the importance of collaboration and active participation among all members.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Wulo, welcomed members and expressed his appreciation for their presence. He highlighted key disaster-related concerns within the district and assured the committee of his unwavering support in addressing these challenges. He further encouraged members to work collaboratively to ensure effective disaster prevention and management.
The Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Osman Abdul-Latif Sinsew, also addressed the gathering. He commended members for their commitment and stressed the importance of regular attendance and active involvement in meetings. He noted that NADMO alone cannot manage disasters effectively without the support of all stakeholders.
He further emphasized the need for:
• Strong collaboration among stakeholders
• Increased public education and sensitization on disaster prevention
• Addressing waste management issues, which remain a major concern
• Resource mobilization to support NADMO’s operations

Promoting Inclusivity: Strengthening Commitment to Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management
Upper West Region, Wa

The National Council on Persons with Disability, in collaboration with NADMO, organized a sensitization workshop on Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management. The workshop aimed to enhance awareness and strengthen capacity for inclusive disaster preparedness and response.
The Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management Guidelines were jointly developed by the Council and NADMO, in partnership with relevant humanitarian response institutions. These guidelines are designed to augment existing humanitarian frameworks by specifically addressing the needs of persons with disabilities before, during, and after emergencies.
The workshop brought together members of the Regional Disaster Management Committee, including the Hon. Regional Minister, who served as Chairman of the Committee.
In his address, the Hon. Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., highlighted the following key points:
• A resilient society is measured by its commitment to protecting its most vulnerable members.
• While disasters affect everyone, their impact can be disproportionately severe on persons with disabilities if deliberate inclusion measures are not implemented across planning, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
• Government remains committed to strengthening disaster preparedness and response mechanisms across the country.
• NADMO was encouraged to adopt a proactive approach to disaster management by developing a comprehensive disaster preparedness roadmap for the Upper West Region. Such a roadmap would enable municipalities to better assess vulnerabilities and enhance resilience and recovery capacity.
He concluded by urging participants to translate the knowledge acquired into practical actions within their respective communities.
Facilitators guided participants through key thematic areas, including:
• An overview of the Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management Guidelines
• Reasonable accommodation in humanitarian response
In his closing remarks, the Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Osman Abdul Latif Sinsew, expressed his appreciation to all participants for their active engagement. He also commended the collaborative efforts of NADMO, the National Council on Persons with Disability, and development partners for their commitment to promoting inclusive disaster risk management practices.

INAUGURATION OF THE DISASTER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Lawra Municipal Assembly

Introduction:
The Lawra Municipal Assembly held a meeting to inaugurate the Disaster Management Committee. The meeting brought together key stakeholders and committee members to discuss their roles and responsibilities in disaster prevention and management within the municipality.
Welcome Address:
The meeting began with a welcome address by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lawra, Hon. Cecilia Soyelleh Nuratu. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of the Disaster Management Committee and its role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the people within the municipality.
She outlined the key functions of the committee and encouraged members to work diligently and remain committed to the task entrusted to them.
Remarks by the Regional Director: (NADMO):
The Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Abdul-Latif Osman Sinsew emphasized the importance of having an active and effective disaster management committee at the municipal level.
He stressed the need for the committee to meet regularly to discuss and address disaster-related issues within the municipality. He also urged stakeholders to form taskforces where necessary to help supervise and address critical issues such as:
Unauthorized electrical wiring in homes
Electrical wiring in public places
Other activities that could potentially lead to disasters.
Mr Sinsew also discussed the issue of limited resources and the need for efficient utilization of available resources.
He concluded by thanking the Municipal Chief Executive and all stakeholders for their time and commitment.
Stakeholders’ Contributions:
During the open discussion session, stakeholders shared their concerns and suggestions.
All stakeholders should contribute their quota towards disaster prevention.
Choked gutters were identified as a major concern that could lead to flooding.
Participants emphasized the need to address man-made disasters within the municipality.
Public education was highlighted as an important strategy for disaster prevention.
Members were encouraged to be proactive in identifying and addressing potential risks.

The Police Commander also contributed by emphasizing the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in order to effectively manage and prevent disasters.
Participants also discussed human activities that contribute to choked gutters and flooding and stressed the need for community education to address these challenges.
Participants also encouraged residents to engage in dry season gardening as part of community development initiatives.

In the closing remarks of the chairperson of the committee, Hon Cecilia Soyelleh Nuratu, encouraged members to ensure regular attendance at meetings and actively participate in committee activities.
Finally, members were reminded of their responsibility to serve diligently and were called upon to demonstrate dedication and sacrifice in the discharge of their duties.

The Director General of NADMO, Major Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), has been conferred with the prestigious Sankofa Pan-African Honour for Disaster Management Leadership.

The award was presented at a colourful ceremony held on February 26, 2026, at the National Theatre of Ghana in Accra.
The Sankofa Pan-African Honours celebrate distinguished individuals and institutions whose work has significantly strengthened governance, enterprise, faith, culture, and community development across the continent.

Dr. Kuyon was recognised for his exemplary leadership in disaster management, national resilience building, and emergency coordination in Ghana.

Receiving the award on his behalf, NADMO’s Deputy Director General in charge of Protocol, Ms. Henrietta Asante, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the honour.

End-of-Year Get-Together Report

The End-of-Year Get-Together was successfully held and organised by the Upper West Regional Secretariate of NADMO, under the leadership of the Regional Director, Mr. Abdul Latif Osman Sinsew. The event was organised to celebrate the year’s achievements and to strengthen fellowship and teamwork among staff and stakeholders.
The programme brought together management and staff, key stakeholders, heads of departments, invited guests, and the Regional Minister, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. The gathering took place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, promoting interaction and camaraderie among participants.
Activities during the event included opening remarks from the Regional Director of NADMO and an address by the Special Guest of Honour. There was also entertainment and the recognition of outstanding contributions made by staff during the year. Participants shared experiences, reflected on successes and challenges, and expressed appreciation for teamwork and mutual support.
