The Resilience of Organizations for Transformative Smallholder Agriculture Project (ROOTS), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DoA), has kicked off a two-day Convergence in Jenoi, Lower River Region.
This important engagement brings both teams together to reflect on progress under the framework agreement-what’s working, what needs improvement, and how to move forward with stronger collaboration.
Key discussions are centered on the implementation of the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach and other joint interventions aimed at boosting agricultural productivity across the country.
In his welcoming remarks, Regional Agriculture Director for Lower River Region, Mr. Lamin Sanyang, officially received participants. ROOTS Project Director, Mr. Famara Trawally, described the Department of Agriculture as a strategic partner, referring to the Convergence as a “homecoming” a space to openly reflect, align, and strengthen efforts for greater impact. He highlighted that investments in Farmer Field Schools are to contribute to improved production and productivity, particularly in rice and vegetable value chains such as tomatoes and onions.
Delivering his statement, the Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. Musa Humma, commended ROOTS for its continued support and encouraged open, honest dialogue throughout the sessions. He reaffirmed DoA’s commitment to sustaining and building on the progress achieved and officially declared the Convergence open.
The session began with a review of previous minutes and action points, bringing together leadership, regional coordinators, and technical teams from both ROOTS and DoA working collectively towards a more productive and resilient agricultural sector.
