The inauguration of the QCell Smart Building, The Diplomat, and The Global Tower is more than the unveiling of impressive new landmarks. It is a powerful reflection of the confidence investors have in Gambia’s future and the opportunities being created across our economy.

These projects demonstrate what is possible when Gambians invest in Gambia. They represent jobs created, businesses expanded, local capital retained, and a growing private sector that is helping drive national development.

Under the leadership of President Adama Barrow, the country continues to provide an environment where ambition can thrive, investments can grow, and Gambian entrepreneurs can build for generations to come.

Congratulations to the visionary developers, investors, and workers behind these remarkable achievements. Their success is a success for the nation.

The opposition can make allegations. That is their right.

But Gambians should also look at the record.
In 2017, power outages were a daily reality across much of the country. Today, while challenges remain and recent outages have rightly frustrated citizens, no honest observer can deny that The Gambia’s electricity infrastructure has expanded significantly over the past eight years.

Under President Adama Barrow, the country has seen:
• The commissioning of the 23MW Jambur Solar Plant, the largest solar facility in the country.
• Major investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure, including the country’s first high-voltage electricity transmission project at Salaji, Jabang and Kotu.
• Expansion of electricity access to communities across the country through projects such as GEAP, GERMP and other donor-supported programmes.
• Integration into the OMVG regional power network, allowing access to additional electricity imports and strengthening long-term energy security.

These are tangible projects that can be seen on the ground—not allegations on social media.
Citizens have every right to demand answers about recent power disruptions. Government and NAWEC must address those concerns openly and urgently. But it is equally important not to ignore the substantial progress made in expanding electricity access and modernising the national grid.

The debate should be based on facts, performance and evidence—not anonymous accusations.

Another important step forward for healthcare in The Gambia.

Following the inauguration of the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the country is set to inaugurate a modern laboratory complex in Farato.

The facility will house:

• National Health Laboratory Services
• National Blood Transfusion Centre (NBTC)
• Isolation and Treatment Centre
• Biomedical Unit
• Imaging Department

The National Blood Transfusion Centre will coordinate blood transfusion services nationwide and carry out blood screening using advanced technology in line with WHO standards, helping to ensure safer and more reliable blood supplies across the country.

This investment is another demonstration of the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare services and strengthening the country’s health infrastructure.

Under the leadership of President Adama Barrow and the guidance of the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, significant investments continue to be made in modern facilities, diagnostic services, and medical technologies to better serve Gambians.

Progress in healthcare is visible, and more investments are on the way.

As The Gambia continues to grow, The Global Tower in Kotu stands as a symbol of progress, innovation, and the opportunities that lie ahead for generations to come.

Speaking at the event, His Excellency President Adama Barrow described the inauguration as a celebration of Gambian talent, Gambian leadership, and Gambian ambition.

The opposition coalition has taken the next step by opening nominations for a flag-bearer, but the toughest decisions may still lie ahead.

Forming a coalition is one thing. Agreeing on a single candidate who can unite different parties, supporters, and ambitions is another.

Questions are already being raised about whether the candidate should be chosen based on party size, popularity, experience, or consensus. How the coalition answers those questions could determine its future.

Meanwhile, President Barrow and the NPP enter the election cycle with an established candidate, a governing record, and a campaign message already taking shape.

For the coalition, the challenge now is turning calls for unity into agreement on leadership. The nomination process will show whether that is easier said than done.

A claim is being circulated that President Barrow showed no sympathy for households and businesses affected by recent power outages, offered no indication of when the situation would be resolved, described the crisis as being beyond government control, and effectively suggested that Gambians should simply accept the situation.

That characterization is neither fair nor accurate.

Acknowledging that an electricity crisis stems from technical challenges is not the same as dismissing the suffering of citizens. Gambians are understandably frustrated by power interruptions, and government institutions must continue working urgently to address them. However, it is important to distinguish between explaining the causes of a problem and excusing it.

Electricity supply depends on generation capacity, fuel availability, transmission infrastructure, maintenance, and regional power arrangements. When disruptions occur, leaders have a responsibility to explain the realities of the situation while directing efforts toward solutions.

The real question is not whether citizens are concerned—they are. The question is whether the country remains focused on fixing the problem. Gambians deserve reliable electricity, and that remains the objective. Constructive scrutiny is welcome, but misrepresenting statements for political effect does little to help households, businesses, or the national economy.

The reduction of diesel prices by D5 per litre is welcome news for Gambian households, transport operators, farmers, fishermen, and businesses.

By committing over D150 million in subsidies, the Government has shown its determination to cushion citizens from rising global fuel prices and ease the cost of living.

A positive step in the right direction. 🇬🇲
