On Monday, 4th May 2026, the Brikamaba Public Health Office conducted a health program and inspection at Jahally Basic Cycle School. The aim was *to educate students on personal hygiene and equip them with practical knowledge to protect themselves and others from the recent surge in skin rashes and hygiene-related illnesses.*

The team also assessed the school premises and shared sustainable recommendations for a cleaner, safer learning environment.

The school administration highly appreciated the initiative, and the event was a success.

*PUBLIC HEALTH ACTION: Vendor Obstruction & Hygiene Concerns Addressed in Panchang Wharftown, Upper Saloum District, April 29, 2026*

After a public complaint about food vendors obstructing a shop and causing hygiene concerns, Public Health Officers from Njau Minor Health Centre conducted a *joint food inspection and occupational health & Safety assessment in Panchang Wharftown.*

The team engaged the shop owner, vendors, and Alkalo, sensitized vendors on food hygiene, and advised relocation to a safer area. A workplace safety assessment was also done to address hazards and raise awareness among workers.

The intervention created a cleaner, safer, and more organized business environment. Routine monitoring by Njau MHC will continue to ensure compliance.

*SCHOOL HEALTH EDUCATION ON PERSONAL HYGIENE AT MBAYEN BURAMA LBS, NIANIJA DISTRICT, APRIL 30, 2026*

On 30th April 2026, the Chamen Public Health Office, together with the Community Health Nurse/Midwife and supported by the District Education Committee, held a health education session at Mbayen Burama Lower Basic School. The activity was organized in response to a recent surge in scabies cases among students.

The session focused on *Personal Hygiene* and was delivered through verbal presentations and practical demonstrations covering handwashing, bathing, clothing hygiene, and scabies prevention.

Students were highly participatory and showed a strong understanding of the topics discussed.

The event was successful and reinforced our commitment to promoting healthy practices in schools to safeguard children’s health.

*📍 SCHOOL HEALTH UPDATE @ DALABA BASIC CYCLE SCHOOL, NIAMINA WEST DISTRICT*

*Date: Wednesday, 29th April 2026*

Earlier today, the Public Health Official of Nanaba Community Clinic conducted a *school environmental inspection and health education session* at Dalaba Basic Cycle School.

The purpose of the exercise was to assess sanitation and environmental hygiene conditions affecting school-age children.

Key areas inspected during the exercise include:
1. General school environment
2. Classroom ventilation & lighting
3. Water source
4. Sanitation facilities
5. Waste management
6. Food storage & handling
7. Health education on personal hygiene & sanitation

The inspection was successfully completed. A *feedback meeting was held immediately after* to highlight areas needing urgent action to safeguard the health of the people, especially the children.

The team remains dedicated to promoting safe, healthy learning environments for all school children in Niamina West.

*📢 Health Education Update from Kaur Health Centre Team*

Today, Kaur Health Center engaged students in Kaur Upper Basic School (UBS) on *STIs, focusing on HIV & HPV*.

We covered:
✅What STIs are
✅Signs & symptoms
✅Mode of transmission
✅Risk factors
✅Public Health Impact
✅Key prevention steps like abstinence, condom use, HPV vaccine, and regular testing.

The session was interactive with real-life examples and Q&A. Students participated actively and appreciated the visit.

*📢 JOINT JAHANKA PUBLIC HEALTH ACTIVITIES, 21st–22nd April, 2026*

The *Jahanka Public Health Office* conducted two interventions to strengthen food safety and community surveillance:

*1. Joint Inspection at Madina Tunjang, 21st April, 2026*

Bakery and environmental health inspections were carried out, and the *Community Surveillance Case Definition* was handed over to the Village Health Worker to improve local reporting and early response.

*2. Lumo Inspection at Jahanka Community, 22nd April, 2026*

The team verified *Food Handler Certificates* and promoted regular *food screening* to ensure a hygienic food environment and protect vendor well-being.

Following the above activities, the team highlighted the following recommendations:
- Plan a joint inspection next week with *RMNCAH, Food Safety, Livestock, and Veterinary Officers* for a coordinated response.
- Strengthen compliance with food safety standards and continue health education for vendors.

Both activities were completed successfully and reinforced the office’s commitment to public health and food safety in the district.

This brought Public Health Officers together to strengthen unity, educate communities, and reinforce our shared responsibility in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.
