Bijilo Ward Teams Receive Jerseys Ahead of Naweetan

The Bijilo Ward Development Committee, under the leadership of Ward Councillor Hon. Bubacarr Jaiteh, has supported 12 teams within the ward with a set of jerseys each ahead of the upcoming Naweetan tournament.

The initiative aims to boost team morale and support competitive participation at the grassroots level.

The support forms part of community-driven projects funded through the Brikama Area Council’s Ward Development Fund allocation.

Development Initiatives of Brikama Area Council Under the Leadership of Hon. Chairman Yanks Darboe

Under the able leadership of Hon. Chairman Yanks Darboe, the Brikama Area Council has implemented a number of development initiatives aimed at improving the lives and livelihoods of people across the West Coast Region. Key achievements include:

Fiscal Discipline and Responsible Financial Management
The Council has prioritised fiscal discipline by maximising revenue mobilisation while ensuring that expenditures are both realistic and aligned with the Council's development priorities.

Youth Employment
Over 200 young people have been employed, creating much-needed employment opportunities and contributing to the economic empowerment of young people in the region.

Education and Scholarships
More than 800 young people have benefited from full scholarship packages, providing them with opportunities to pursue their education and improve their future prospects.

Religious Support
The Council provides annual food support to Majalis across the region during Ramadan and Mawlid. Financial assistance is also extended to the Christian community as part of the Council's commitment to supporting religious and social cohesion.

Medical Assistance
Support has been provided to vulnerable individuals and families requiring medical treatment, including assistance for both local and overseas medical treatment.

Youth Empowerment and Sports Development
The Council provides annual budgetary support to the Regional Youth and Sports Committee, helping to promote youth development, sports, and community engagement.

Clean and Safe Drinking Water
More than 90 boreholes have been provided across the region, helping communities gain improved access to clean and safe drinking water.

Socio-Economic Development of Women
Numerous horticultural gardens and market sheds have been constructed or rehabilitated, creating opportunities for women to engage in income-generating activities and strengthen their livelihoods.

Road Infrastructure
Several important road projects have been undertaken, including the Nana Junction-to-BAC Main Gate road, which was concreted through Tesito, the access road to the Brikama Fish Market, as well as the annual rehabilitation of feeder roads in various communities.

Drainage and Flood Mitigation
The Council has constructed more than 100 metres of drainage as well as a culvert in Brikama Jambarr Sanneh, helping to improve drainage and reduce the impact of flooding in the community.

Ward Development Fund
The Council has consistently provided funds to wards to support community-driven development projects, allowing communities to identify and implement projects based on their own priorities.

Waste Management
The Council has strengthened waste management through the provision of a brand-new fleet of machinery and equipment for waste collection and disposal, contributing to cleaner and healthier communities.

These initiatives demonstrate the Brikama Area Council's commitment to responsible governance, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, women's economic advancement, environmental sanitation, and community-led development across the West Coast Region.

Under the leadership of Hon. Chairman Yanks Darboe, the Council continues to focus on practical interventions that directly respond to the needs of the people and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the region.

Council Deploys Bulldozer to Support Pirang Mini Stadium Project

The Council has deployed its bulldozer to support the Pirang community in clearing and preparing a designated site for the construction of a mini stadium.

The deployment of the heavy-duty machine has significantly contributed to the clearing and leveling of the site, bringing the community one step closer to realizing this important development project.

The support further demonstrates the Council’s commitment to working closely with communities through their local authorities to create meaningful impact and improve the lives and livelihoods of the people.

The Council remains committed to supporting community-driven initiatives that promote development, recreation, and the well-being of residents.

The Management of the Brikama Area Council warmly welcomes the Honourable Minister of Environment on her inspection tour of the Brikama Central Market.

We are delighted by the Honourable Minister’s visit, as it has provided her with the opportunity to witness firsthand the deplorable condition of the Brikama Fish Market, a facility under the custody of her colleague Minister.

The Brikama Area Council has, over the years, single-handedly provided support and implemented various measures aimed at improving the sanitation conditions of the facility. The Council has also consistently called for the collaboration and support of the Central Government in addressing the challenges confronting the market.

We are confident that the Honourable Minister’s visit will reinforce our call for greater collaboration and renewed commitment toward finding a lasting and sustainable solution to the sanitation challenges at the Brikama Fish Market.

The Brikama Area Council remains committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the facility is brought up to the required standards for the benefit of traders, consumers, and the wider community.

Council Supports Majalis with Food Provisions

Ahead of the observance of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Mawlid Al-Nabi), the Hon. Chairman of the Council delivered food provisions to the Khaliph of Ba-Nyaka community as part of the Council’s welfare support for communities observing this holy occasion.

Similar provisions will also be delivered to communities in Siffoe, Basori, Pirang, Babilone, the Mourede community in Brikama, and Busura.

The initiative reflects the Council’s continued commitment to supporting religious and community activities across the region, particularly during important religious occasions.

It is worthy of note that, under the leadership of Hon. Chairman Yankuba Darboe, the Council has significantly strengthened its engagement with and support for religious communities across the region, leaving a meaningful footprint in the region’s religious affairs.

Hadigala International College Recognizes Brikama Area Council

In recognition of our outstanding welfare service delivery and commitment to improving the lives of people in the West Coast Region, the management of Hadigala International College has awarded the Brikama Area Council as the Most Outstanding Council in Promoting Education through Scholarship Support.

Stakeholders Engagement on the Construction of Midwife House in Bonto Village

The Pirang Ward Committee held a stakeholders’ engagement with the Bonto Village Development Committee (VDC) and the Alkalo to formally inform them of the Committee’s approval of D323,400 from BAC-WDF 2026 towards the construction of a midwife house in Bonto Village.

The approved amount will be used to purchase construction materials, while the Bonto Village community, through the Village Development Committee, will provide the required labour as part of their contribution towards the implementation of the project.

The construction of the midwife house is expected to create a more conducive and supportive environment for mothers and their babies, while also strengthening access to maternal and child health services within the community.

The project is expected to be completed within three months, subject to the timely availability of materials and community labour. The Pirang Ward Committee looks forward to the continued cooperation and support of the Bonto VDC, Alkalo, and the wider community to ensure the successful completion of the project.

BAC extends services to Bwiam General Hospital

The Council deployed its 20,000-liter capacity septic tank to drain sewage waste at Bwiam General Hospital earlier this afternoon.

This service demonstrates the Council's commitment to improving public spaces and the sanitary conditions of facilities.
