February 15 – Professor Daizal R. Samad from the University of Guyana Berbice Campus, Regional Commander Division #6, Shivpersaud Bacchus, and Ms. Ashwannie Harripersaud visited The Humanitarian Mission – Guyana Inc. The Mission, located at Babu John, Port Mourant, is managed by Mr. Suresh Sugrim.
This location is proposed to be an active counselling site for persons across the region. This initiative is intended to be a collaborative effort among the Albion Police Station Management Committee (APSMC), the Guyana Police Force, and the Mission. The aim is to establish a central location that is intended to offer counselling services to victims of domestic violence and those who are susceptible to su***de and self-harm, ailments that continue to plague our society.
Persons who are suffering from mental, emotional, and physical abuse oftentimes find it difficult to reach out to persons for help. Professor Samad, Chairman of the APSMC, will be available at this location on Thursdays from 13:00 hrs. to 16:00 hrs. Our aim is not only to promote professional counselling to the vulnerable, but also to assure that matters are treated with utmost confidentiality and respect.
The Albion Police Station also plans to hold workshops on Su***de and Self-harm in the near future. The public will be invited.
For appointments please visit the Humanitarian Mission at Lot 14-26 Area Q, Ankerville Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice or call 336-6913, 615-2433, or 680-1008. Those in dire need may also call the Albion Police Station at 322-0753.
