โOur Officers Are Not Obstacles โ They Are Human Beingsโ: Guyana Police Association Condemns Reckless Road Behavior After Three Officers Injured
Georgetown, Guyana โ August 26 ,2025 โ The Guyana Police Association is strongly condemning a series of reckless and careless actions on the nationโs roadways that have left three dedicated police ranks seriously injured while carrying out their duties.
โThese are not mere accidents,โ the Association declared. โThey are the result of lawlessness, negligence, and a blatant disregard for human life and for the authority of our officers. Such behavior is unacceptable, intolerable, and must end immediately.โ
Recent Incidents
Thursday, August 14, 2025 โ Woman Lance Corporal Annastacia Sutton was struck by a motor car while managing traffic at Annandale Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Monday, August 18, 2025 โ Corporal Francis Atkinson was seriously injured at Triumph Public Road when a motor lorryโs dangerous protruding load struck him as he directed traffic.
Tuesday, August 19, 2025 โ Chief Inspector John Walcott was knocked down by a motorcyclist at Cove and John Public Road, sustaining severe injuries. Charges have since been filed in this matter.
The Association commended the Judiciary for its swift action in addressing cases already before the Court, stating that such responses send a clear and powerful message: reckless and unlawful conduct on Guyanaโs roads will not go unpunished.

The Association stands in full solidarity with W/L/Cpl Sutton, Cpl Atkinson, and C/Insp Walcott, offering unwavering support and prayers for their recovery.
