Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit joins communities across the globe in celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is a time to raise awareness, honour survivors, remember those we have lost and stand with every person and family impacted by breast cancer.

Early detection and timely medical attention can make a real difference. We encourage everyone to know their personal risk, watch for changes in their health, and talk with a healthcare provider about the right screening plan for them. Breast cancer can affect women and men. It’s important we’re all aware, educated and supported.

PUBLIC NOTICE
The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit is aware of a promotional flyer circulating publicly in relation to an event advertised for Georgetown.
While the phrase used in the promotion may be intended as a figure of speech, CANU reminds promoters, venue operators, and members of the public that drug-related references, imagery, or messaging must not be interpreted as encouragement, promotion, or facilitation of illegal narcotics activity.
CANU will continue to monitor public information and work with relevant law enforcement and regulatory agencies to ensure that entertainment venues and events operate in accordance with the laws of Guyana.
Members of the public with credible information relating to the possession, sale, use, trafficking, or distribution of narcotic drugs are encouraged to report it through the appropriate official channels.

Shaping a Brighter, Drug-Free Future, One Page at a Time!
Knowledge is our strongest shield.
It is never too early to empower our children with facts that will keep them safe, informed, and in control of their own futures.
We are spending some quality reading time exploring the “Truth About Drugs Series."
a fantastic initiative launched by the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU).
With 12 highly informative, age-appropriate booklets, this series breaks down the real, lasting effects of substance abuse in a way that young minds can easily digest and understand.
From interactive guides for kids to deep dives into modern challenges like va**ng and synthetic substances, it provides the exact wake-up call our youth need to navigate negative peer pressure.
The drug landscape is evolving rapidly, and dealers are constantly changing their packaging to target younger buyers. As parents, educators, and community members, we can’t afford to look away. Sitting down and having open conversations with our kids about these materials is a game-changer. Let’s protect our next generation by teaching them to say NO to drugs and YES to their potential! Want to start the conversation with your children? You can download the booklets for free right now via the official CANU Truth About Drugs Platform.

Social Events should create memories, not victims.

It is deeply concerning to learn recently about illicit drugs, excessive alcohol use, and the possible spiking of drinks at social events. One pill, one drink, and one careless decision can change a life forever.

Drugs are not harmless entertainment. They can be hidden in drinks, pills, powders, vapes, candy, and other substances. They can cause overdose, unconsciousness, permanent injury, sexual vulnerability, violence, and possible death. No party, no trend, and no peer pressure is worth your life.

To every patron: protect yourself and those around you. Do not accept drinks, pills, vapes, or any substances from strangers. Never leave your drink unattended. Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, seek help immediately.

For event promoters and organisers: safety is not optional. It is your duty. You are responsible for creating an environment where drug activity is not tolerated, suspicious behaviour is addressed, security is visible, staff are prepared, medical support is accessible, and safe transport is encouraged. A successful event is measured not only by the crowd or the music but also by whether everyone gets home safely.

Be alert. Be responsible.
Drugs do not belong at any party.
One decision can change a life. Make the right one.
