THE EUROPEAN UNION ALLOCATES EURO 150,000 IN SUPPORT OF THE VICTIMS OF RECENT FLOODS ACROSS GUYANA

Georgetown, 25 June 2021 – The European Union is allocating EURO 150,000 in humanitarian funding in support of people affected by the recent wave of intense floods that hit communities across Guyana.
The country has been experiencing higher-than-normal levels of rainfall since May and local authorities estimate that the subsequent extensive flooding has affected over 36,000 households across 300 communities.
With severe weather expected to continue, the main risk is that due to low lying lands and minimal tidal differences, flood waters will retrieve slowly hence generating stagnant pools that would contribute in increasing the risk of water and mosquito-borne diseases.
The current EU humanitarian funding will be channeled towards the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in support of their Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) and will be implemented by the Guyana Red Cross society which is present in all affected districts.
The intervention will last for three months and aims at providing immediate support to 500 vulnerable families currently living in temporary shelters in the most severely affected regions of Upper Takutu, Upper Essequibo, Upper Demerara and Berbice.

Ambassador of the European Union to Guyana, Fernando Ponz Cantó in brief comments referred to the meeting between the EU Delegation and the Director General of Guyana’s Civil Defence Commission (CDC) on June 11, to facilitate the activation of the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism. Following the CDC’s request the EU’s Copernicus Emergency Management Service was also activated on June 14, to provide satellite maps of the affected flood areas across Guyana.
Ambassador Ponz Cantó highlighted that, “this humanitarian grant of EURO 150,000 is already complemented by the intervention of the French Red Cross, which was coordinated by the Embassy of France in Suriname and channeled via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.’

The EU funding will contribute to enable the Guyana Red Cross to swiftly provide families with kitchen sets, solar lamps, durable mosquito nets to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya or Zika. Families will also receive hygiene kits, jerrycans, household cleaning kits and water treatment tablets to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases which are likely to increase due to the persistence of stagnating water.
With EU funding, the Guyana Red Cross will identify the 200 most vulnerable families and deliver to them Cash and Vouchers so that they can purchase what they most urgently need to help them through the difficult period of dislocation.
In order to mitigate the risks connected to a potential spread of the coronavirus, shelters will be equipped with first aid kits and people will receive 5,000 N95 masks and 1,000 flacons of hand sanitizer.
Background
The European Commission has signed a EURO 3 million humanitarian contribution agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the Federation's Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF). Funds from the DREF are mainly allocated to 'small-scale' disasters – those that do not give rise to a formal international appeal.
The Disaster Relief Emergency Fund was established in 1985 and is supported by contributions from donors. Each time a National Red Cross or Red Crescent Society needs immediate financial support to respond to a disaster, it can request funds from the DREF. For small-scale disasters, the IFRC allocates grants from the Fund, which can then be replenished by the donors. The contribution agreement between the IFRC and the European Commission enables the latter to replenish the DREF for agreed operations (that fit in with its humanitarian mandate) up to a total of €3 million.

Further update: June 23. Carefully read, horror/looters in Lagos State. 日本,Kenneth Okonkwo (para 9) 1. There is a secret here. Because of this our post published on May 13,18/19, Pres. Buhari recognized his enemy, the late Abiola, as president; even though Abiola sponsored Babangida to overthrow Buhari. Then, Ogboru who gave us a poison fish, sponsored a coup to overthrow Babangida, but failed. Osuala who is a friend of Ogboru, his ex-wife, who divorced Osuala many years ago and is from a Caribbean country (resembled Susan Rice), has been for decades living with Abdulsalam Abubakar, who was once a military head of state, assumed to be close to Buhari. So this flashing post changed a big thing in Nigeria. Instead of allowing us to receive what belongs to us and live our life with our genuine business from Great Japan, one of the most peaceful countries in the world, Buhari recognized his enemy who was killed by poison under custody. It sounds wonderful and unbelievable 2. I, Michiko, remember this man Ogboru. He gave us one carton of fish. Pity to our late dogs (Jack, Ninja, and Kim). The cause of their illness was detected by the veterinarian, who tried to save their lives, without success. 3. One of our lawyers, Barr. Dickson D.I. Osuala from Nkwerre, Imo State, often asked my husband, Anacho, to accompany to his office, especially when they were coming back from our civil suit in the Federal High Court, Ikoyi. 4. That is where Anacho first met Barr. Macarthy Mbadugha, who later became the lawyer for Innoson in the fraudulent su***de loan of 2.4 billion Naira from GT Bank case. All the scenario points to have been done with our company’s name, Nnojap. Shock, satanic act. 5. Jack, Ninja, and Kim have gone one after another. Remember our good times together. We never knew it was a poisonous fish to murder all of us for their ritual su***de GTB loan (taboo). Anacho wept, asking our dogs for forgiveness. Most High/Kamisama must let these big idiots know their satanic work has been noted. (Karma: the wages of sin) 6. When their fish poison failed half way, they set up Acetylene gas and chemicals to murder us (arson). They were disappointed again. Tragedy of Fashola era. That is Fashola current double job.. 7. Small idiot, Okafor from Ihiala in Anambra, who lives in our Raji Rasaki Estate, is a member of the Labor Party, where Ogboru is also a member. Okafor is among the group who put their names in a list supporting Felix Ewenike for blocking and stealing our parcels in front of our estate gate, criminals claiming they made a law overnight that backing them to intercept our parcel and give it back to us, without our.
