The Government and people of Belize express profound sorrow following the tragic capsizing of the MV Barima in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

We extend our sincere condolences to His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the Government and brotherly people of Guyana, and especially to the families who have lost loved ones or continue to await news of those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.

At this difficult time, Belize joins in mourning this devastating loss and commends the dedication and courage of the emergency responders and rescue teams.

Undebatable: Guyana's future is looking bright and is in good hands 🇬🇾 🙌

On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in the Parliament Chamber of the Public Buildings of Guyana the Hon. Manzoor Nadir, J.P., M.P., Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Guyana Parliament of Guyana hosted the Finals of the Sixth Speaker's National Youth Debating Competition and Prize-giving Ceremony.

The NextGen Youth Group debated against the Helpful Hands Youth Group in what was indeed an impressive and vigorous debate. The moot: Countries should treat AI systems as national security assets.

Her Excellency Gale Miller Garnett, Gale Miller Garnett High Commissioner of Belize to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana was honored to be invited by the Speaker to deliver remarks at the commencement of the ceremony.

The High Commission of Belize extends warm congratulations to the winners of the debate competition: the Helpful Hands Youth Group, to all the debaters involved in the Sixth Speaker's National Youth Debating Competition competition, and to Speaker Nadir and his entire team at the Parliament Office who were instrumental in making this powerful platform possible for the youth of Guyana.
