Approximately 40 delegates representing 20 member and associate member states, along with observers and representatives from other territories, will gather in Guyana for the 31st Caribbean Port State Control Conference (CPSCC).

The conference will be held from June 16 to 18, 2026, at the AC Marriott Hotel in Ogle and will focus on strengthening regional cooperation and harmonising efforts to improve vessel safety, compliance, and port state control practices across the Caribbean. The event will also provide an opportunity for maritime administrations, port state control officers, and industry stakeholders to share best practices, address emerging industry challenges, and advance compliance with international maritime standards.

Guyana will also host the Regional Meeting of Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations (DIHMAR) from June 22 to 24, 2026, at the Aiden by Best Western in Georgetown.

Convened under the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the DIHMAR Meeting brings together senior maritime officials to review developments in the sector, strengthen regional cooperation, and advance initiatives supporting maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.

Hosting both events reflects Guyanaโ€™s continued commitment to regional maritime development and highlights the countryโ€™s growing role in advancing stronger maritime governance, regulatory oversight, and safe, efficient, and sustainable shipping throughout the Caribbean.

Georgetown, Guyana โ€“ Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) continues to advance efforts to improve electricity reliability and support growing demand across the country through strategic investments in power generation infrastructure. As part of these efforts, GPL will be increasing its generation capacity in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) with the addition of a new Cummins Generating Set #4, which is expected to be commissioned by the end of July 2026.

The new generating set has a capacity of 2.2 megawatts, significantly enhancing GPLโ€™s ability to meet the growing electricity demand in Bartica and surrounding communities. Bartica currently has a generation capacity of 5.3 megawatts, while peak demand stands at approximately 3 megawatts. The addition of the new generating unit will further strengthen the reliability and stability of electricity supply, while providing additional reserve capacity to support continued residential, commercial, and industrial growth in the township.

Bartica also benefits from a 1.5-megawatt Solar Farm, which forms part of GPLโ€™s broader strategy to diversify Guyanaโ€™s energy mix through renewable energy integration. The combination of thermal generation and solar energy continues to support a more resilient and efficient electricity network for customers in the region.

The addition of the new generating set underscores GPLโ€™s commitment to expanding and modernising electricity infrastructure to meet increasing customer demand and support economic development in hinterland communities. This investment will further position GPL to maintain a stable and reliable electricity supply in Bartica, while supporting ongoing development in the region.

GPL remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electricity service to customers across Guyana.
