๐Ÿ“ข || PUBLIC STATEMENT.

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Barima-Waini Region, has taken note of concerns raised on various social media platforms by members of the public and political opposition regarding the readiness to accommodate the new Grade Seven intake at the Port Kaituma Secondary School and North West Secondary School.

The RDC wishes to make it categorically clear that the issues raised are being treated as a matter of urgency, and the necessary interventions are being undertaken to have them resolved in the shortest possible time.

It is certainly not the desire or intention of the Regional Democratic Council to have our children accommodated at alternative facilities. However, owing to the significant number of new students entering Grade Seven for the 2026โ€“2027 academic year, there is presently inadequate classroom space within the existing school facilities to accommodate the entire intake.

Consequently, temporary arrangements have become necessary to accommodate some students and teachers at alternative locations. These spaces are presently being prepared to ensure that they are suitable and ready to accommodate those affected while the necessary longer-term arrangements are being addressed.

The Regional Democratic Council sincerely regrets any inconvenience or concern this situation may have caused to our parents, teachers and, most importantly, our students. We understand the importance of providing a safe, comfortable and conducive environment in which teaching and learning can take place.

We wish to reassure parents and the wider public that the Regional Democratic Council is working closely with the Ministry of Education and the Government of Guyana to address the situation as quickly as possible.

Our commitment remains unwavering: every child in Barima-Waini, Region One, must be afforded equal access and opportunity to a sound, quality education in an environment that supports their learning and development.

We thank our parents, teachers, students and the wider public for their patience and understanding as we work urgently to resolve these matters.
