This painting depicts a woman with a sturdy build, yet she still possesses a feminine side, as seen in her clothing.

It portrays the image of a hardworking woman without losing her feminine side. It’s truly inspiring for hardworking women.

The Slit Drum is a hollow wooden percussion instrument used during wedding ceremonies, funerals, daily life, and religious rituals to summon the spirits of ancestors.

The Slit Drum cannot be played randomly; instead, the sounds produced must correspond to the events taking place. This is intended to inform the surrounding community of what is happening.

The Slit Drum serves as evidence that our ancestors had already created a highly sophisticated information system.

Emiria Soenassa was born in Tanawangko, North Sulawesi, 1894. Before she began to paint, she was a nurse, secretary and administrator. Later on, she began to paint in her middle age.

Nearly blind, this Dutch soldier was determined to paint. His name was Arie Smit.

While living in Bali, Smit began to paint. His paintings tend to feature strong or vibrant colors because he suffered from cataracts.

Despite his condition, he remained dedicated to his passion for painting. This proves that the saying “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” is indeed true.

Hampir buta tidak menghentikan seorang tentara Belanda ini untuk melukis. Tentara tersebut bernama Arie Smit.

Saat Smit tinggal di Bali, ia mulai melukis. Lukisannya cenderung memiliki warna yang kuat atau vibrant karena beliau memiliki penyakit katarak.

The perfect blend of visual art and literature is captured in Sudjojono’s work titled “Mountain Landscape.” In addition to its distinctive visual style, this piece contains a poem, an expression of gratitude to Ali Sadikin, the former governor of Jakarta.

Thanks to Ali Sadikin’s support in facilitating artists, particularly in Jakarta, by establishing “Taman Ismail Marzuki” as a tangible manifestation of his commitment. It is for this reason that Sudjojono mentions Ali Sadikin in the poem accompanying this work.

Sobat Museum can find this work at the “Museum Pasifika”, specifically in the Indonesian Room, where it is displayed alongside works by other Indonesian maestros.
