🗓 On 19-21 August, the -EAEU Dialogue and Capacity-Building on Digital Cooperation and Development was held in Jakarta under the ESCAP project “Strengthening Regional Cooperation on Digital Transformation for Economic and Sustainable Development”.
🔹 The three-day seminar brought together experts from and the Eurasian Economic Union ( ) Member States as well as ESCAP, ASEAN Secretariat, partner organisations, IT-companies, think-tanks and others in order to exchange views and best practices.🖥

Ambassador of the Russian Federation 🇷🇺 to ASEAN H.E. Evgeny Zagaynov addressed the participants with the opening remarks:
"The ASEAN-EAEU Dialogue provides a good opportunity to discuss different aspects of the digital agenda of the two organizations and the prospects of further cooperation between them. I hope that this event will facilitate efforts to foster understanding between our regions in the interests of building a fair system of international regulation of the use of AI technologies, as well as equal and effective digital cooperation in other areas".

🔹 The programme covered a wide range of issues, including digital governance, artificial intelligence, data governance, digital trade, digital skills and inclusive digital development.
🔹 Particular attention was given to opportunities for strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and the EAEU in digital transformation and capacity-building.🤝

🗓 On August 10, the 18th ASEAN-Russia Senior Economic Officials Meeting ( -Russia consultation) was held in Manila, the Philippines 🇵🇭.

🔹️Participants discussed the preparations for the approval of a new foundational document: the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Programme on Trade and Investment Cooperation 2026-2035. The document will cover new areas of cooperation such as creative economy, digital transformation, customs cooperation, and environmental protection.

🔹️Delegates emphasized Russia's🇷🇺 role in ensuring energy and food security for Southeast Asia amidst the Middle East crisis.

🔹 Both sides expressed support to enhancing the scope of joint projects under the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Partnership Financial Fund ( ).

Nikita Kondratyev, Director of the Department for Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects at the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia:

“Over the past decade, we have increased hydrocarbon supplies to Southeast Asia by 85%. From January to May of this year, shipments of mineral fuels to ASEAN countries rose by another 34%: hard coal by 60%, lignite by 47%, and crude oil by 29%. We have also achieved significant results in the food sector. Over the past decade, meat product shipments to ASEAN have increased fiftyfold. In the first five months of this year alone, Russian beef exports to ASEAN countries rose by 87%.”

🎉 On August 8, Russian Ambassador to ASEAN H.E. Evgeny Zagaynov 🇷🇺 took part in the celebration of the 5️⃣9️⃣ Day at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta 🇮🇩, held under the theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together”.

🎂 As part of the festive program Russia🇷🇺 presented national culinary specialties at ASEAN Food Festival featuring cuisines of the ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Dialogue Partners, organized by the ASEAN Women's Circle of Jakarta.
The menu of the Russian booth was the following 🪆:

🔸 festive ‘Kulebyaka’ pie with chicken and mushrooms 🥧
🔸 ‘pirozhki’ pies with apple and cinnamon 🍏
🔸 ‘Medovik’ honey cake (beloved and always awaited by our guests)🍯

💬 Rosatom State Corporation:

🚢 On August 4, participants in the 7th Icebreaker of Knowledge scientific and educational expedition set off for the North Pole aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy (50 years of ).

⚓️ The international expedition brings together talented school students from 23 countries (including from countries: Indonesia 🇮🇩, Myanmar 🇲🇲 and Vietnam 🇻🇳).

🧊 Over the course of 10 days, the participants will gain first-hand insight into the icebreaker’s operations – learning how it navigates through thick ice and how the crew handles the vessel in Arctic conditions. The programme also includes lectures, workshops and team activities.

🌐 Over the project’s six previous seasons, more than 400 talented school students from around the world have taken part in Rosatom’s Arctic expeditions to the North Pole.

🤝 EAEU – ASEAN: Cooperation in Technical Regulation

🗓 On July 31, the Eurasian Economic Commission ( ), together with the ASEAN Secretariat, held a seminar to discuss the technical regulation systems of the Eurasian Economic Union ( ) and .

🔹 The EEC presented the key aspects of the EAEU unified technical regulation system, its current status, and development prospects.

🔹 ASEAN Secretariat’s representatives touched upon the topic of conformity assessment and shared the experience of food safety regulation and standardization in ASEAN countries.

🔹The seminar addressed the current safety requirements for light industry products, electrical equipment, rubber products, as well as food safety requirements, including tea, coffee, fish, and seafood.

📌 The parties confirmed that trade ties between the EAEU and ASEAN continue to expand, and mutual understanding of technical regulatory systems, standards, and conformity assessment procedures is necessary to facilitate unimpeded market access and ensure product safety. The EEC and ASEAN Secretariat agreed to continue their dialogue.

🗓 On July 24, Ambassador of Russia to ASEAN H.E. Evgeny Zagaynov 🇷🇺 took part in the High-Level Conference of High Contracting Parties to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia ( ) in Manila, the Philippines 🇵🇭, as part of the commemorative activities marking the Treaty’s 5️⃣0️⃣ Anniversary.

Key points of the intervention at the breakout session “Advancing Cooperation in Addressing Emerging Threats and Challenges” 💬:

🔹️ H.E. Evgeny Zagaynov underscored the Treaty's enduring significance over the past five decades as the key code of conduct in governing inter-state relations in the Southeast Asia.

🔹️As emphasized in the 2024 ASEAN-Russia Joint Statement, the Russia’s accession to the strengthened its contribution to peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

🔹️ Russia attaches great importance to Combatting Transnational Crime agenda. Terrorist and extremist threats are evolving due to growing radicalization as well as misuse of which boost the spread of destructive ideologies.

🔹️ Russia is committed to addressing the challenges of development and security in the field of as well as to creation and deployment of trusted AI systems.

🔹️ There is an urgent need to intensify cooperation in preventing full range of emerging threats and developing comprehensive approaches by strengthening relevant cooperation with partners both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of specialized mechanisms of the -ASEAN Dialogue Partnership, the Regional Forum on Security, the Asia Summit, while also looking into ways of possible synergies among relevant regional organizations and associations, including ASEAN, and .
