Ufone has expanded its 3G circle to Karachi by launching Free 3G services in mega city. Mobilink has also started Free 3G service in Peshawar.
Earlier on Ufone was only providing 3G services in Lahore, Islamabad & Rawalpindi. Unlike its competitor in market, Ufone is not providing any exclusive 3G service to only a select numbers but to all the Ufone customers in its coverage area who have the appropriate 3G enabled smartphone. Reports have said that Ufone is going to concentrate more in the Lahore and Islamabad region and launch of 3G, after a formal acquirement of 3G licenses, in other cities would be just to fulfil the conditions set by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
Mobilink has launched its 3G services in Peshawar, another city where no other telecom operator has provided next generation of mobile services. Mobilink started its Free 3G trial from Karachi and then went on to launch these services in the heartland cities of the country i.e. Multan, Faisalabad and Quetta. This week probably, licenses for 3G will be awarded to successful bidding companies and after that telecom companies will roll out 3G technology on commercial basis to their users.
Mobile phone companies has already made plans of their own by either launching new 3G smartphone or by reducing price of earlier 3G smartphones so that they can also get a piece of revenues that will be generated once 3G enters in the telecom arena of Pakistan.
