Great to be invited to the launch of Kilkenny Kilkenny LEADER Partnership's Local Development Strategy 2023 - 2027. It was a great event, and an opportunity to discuss opportunities for North Kilkenny with colleagues in the sector.

With a Budget of €6.1M there is lots to do, but even at this, unfortunately the funds have been cut by 20%. The three themes covered in this strategy are as follows;

1. Economic Development and Job Creation

2. Rural Infrastructure and Social Inclusion

3. Sustainable Development and Climate Change, Mitigation and Adaptation

I am looking forward to working with communities to secure funding for projects in their areas.

Do let me know if there are projects in your area that need assistance.

As I sat to eat some breakfast this morning, and reflect on what the oncoming weeks will bring in the lead up to the Local Election, the promises, the empty sincerities, deceptive solidarity, and unseen motivations of some, who have their eyes cast, not on the advancement of civil society, and social justice, but on their little levers of power and influence.

it’s ironic that within the changing political landscape that has seen a rise in my own party’s (Sinn Féin) popularity, and the reality of the horizon of change that is within our grasp, only made possible by the sacrifices of many, none greater than to give ones’ own life.

Today I think of Bobby Sands who on this day in 1981, showed the strength of his own convictions, and commenced his own sacrifice for his Country, Country Men & Women, and indeed party.

I am in no doubt, that if such a sacrifice was called upon today, some who use our party’s rising tide to ride the waves of opportunity, would be the first to jump ship, to find an alternative vehicle to pursue their political and financial aspirations.
I give you his poem Weeping Winds, which I am reading here. What a man and patriot & Poet.

I give you his poem Weeping Winds, written by Bobby Sands and read by: Seosamh Caomhánach - Sinn Fein Area Representative for North Kilkenny

This poem was written by Bobby Sands, and read by Seosamh Caomhánach

For those not familiar with times of buses to Carlow, here is the timetable which is a remarkable service to a rural area.

I am delighted to have been asked to sit on the board of a Not for Profit organisation, to guide it through the transition to acquiring Charitable Status.

The Charity will help people on Renal Dialysis, and their families to optimise the time spent while on Dialysis each week, through Creative and Educational initiatives.

These initiatives are designed to help patients and their families, who find themselves dealing with the difficulties associated with outcomes of Renal Failure. These difficulties include depression, low esteem and self worth, which in some cases derives from the patients inability to continue to provide for their family as previously done prior to nephrology.

In this non paying role, I will be responsible for all aspects of Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance, ensuring that, as a Charitable organisation, it will have the correct structure in place to deliver its purpose, and maintain compliance with the Charities Governance Code, which is crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability.
