Aontú is bringing a Private Members’ Bill to the Dáil today to demand action for the thousands of families, workers and businesses who are at the pin of their collar trying to keep up with the relentless rise in the cost of living.
Every single month, people are being hit with higher costs for the basic necessities of life, energy, fuel, groceries and household bills.
Energy taxes have ballooned in recent years, and the Government has benefited from extraordinary increases in revenue, while ordinary people are left struggling to heat their homes, fill their cars and keep their businesses afloat.
This cannot continue.
The temporary stay on further excise increases on petrol and diesel is not enough. It is a short-term sticking plaster on a much bigger crisis. These increases must be deferred indefinitely until the Government actually addresses the soaring cost of living and the crippling energy costs facing households and employers.
A Government that continues to take more from people while so many are under unprecedented pressure must listen and change course.
