Colour vision testing — and achieving a pass result — is no longer a mandatory entry requirement for the following apprenticeship programmes:

- Painting & Decorating
- Plumbing
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
- Instrumentation
- Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
- Electronic Security Systems
- Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitting
- Agricultural Mechanics
- Construction Plant Fitting
- Heavy Vehicle Mechanics
- Motor Mechanics
- Vehicle Body Repairs

🔎 What’s recommended instead?
Employers are now advised to request a colour vision screening by an optometrist before registration. This helps ensure both the candidate and employer are aware of any colour vision considerations that may be relevant during training.
