OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MOHAMMADU BUHARI
Dear Sir,
1. DECLARATION OF ASSETS IS NOT THE WAY TO FIGHT CORRUPTION IN THE GENERAL POPULATION OF ANY NATION.
I am writing you as a concerned citizen. With reference to your campaign promises via the manifesto of your party, you promised to focus on security, jobs creation/economy and corruption etc. It’s no news that you will require all your ministers to declare their assets and I wonder how declaration of assets by public officials will eradicate corruption from the general population. In order to succeed, in eradicating corruption from the general population, your administration has no choice but to immediately implement SOCIAL TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTION (STI).
Governance in developed countries around the world sits on a tripod of security, judiciary and Social Technology Institutions. These institutions are intertwined and unfortunately, Social Technology Institution (STI) that prevents and fights corruption in the general population is not in existence in Nigeria. STI has short, medium and long term solutions to Nigeria’s problems.
2. SOME SHORT TERM SOLUTIONS TO ERADICATING CORRUPTION WITH SOCIAL TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTION.
(a)-Nigeria is bleeding profusely in terms of economic leakages, for instance, car smuggling is one of serious economic sabotage and Nigeria is losing billions in revenue on daily basis. Vehicles are not only being smuggled through our land borders, the fact remains that our sea borders are also being used to smuggle vehicles into the country with the connivance of Nigeria border security operatives. However, the good news is that STI can put vehicles smugglers out of business within ninety days.
(b)-Whether fuel subsidy is going to be removed or not; whether refineries are working in full capacity or not; whether refineries are privatized or not; and whether NNPC is going to be split up or not, two things are certain: first, petroleum products are being diverted to neighboring countries on daily basis and second, daily local consumption, area by area, during regular days and during festive periods must be established for economics planning. Within 90 days, STI can establish the following: 1-daily consumption locality by locality during normal and festive days; 2-prevents illegal diversion of petroleum products to neighboring countries; 3-monitors and documents activities of all filling stations in the country thereby prevents artificial scarcity; 4-prevents filling stations from tampering with their pump’s metering device thereby protects customers from being short-changed; 5-established the exact quantity of products refined in our refineries and exact quantity of products imported into the country etc. NOTE: Within 90 days, STI can eradicate corruption from other revenue generating institutions like immigration, police, customs, driver license frsc, etc.
3. SOCIAL TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTION AS A REVENUE GENERATING INSTITUTION
With a population of 150 million it’s estimated the federal government alone is guaranteed to benefit additional N10trn yearly income. States like Lagos, Kano, Oyo and Rivers can be averaging between N5bn to N3bn additional IGR per month because of their population.
3a. SOCIAL TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTION AS A TOOL AGAINST HUMAN RIGHT ABUSE.
Nigeria’s human-right records are presently nothing to write about however, with the establishment of STI, Nigeria will soon be removed from Amnesty International watch list.
STI can well be defined as intelligent gathering institution for the government and how Social Technology Institution prevents crimes and strengthens internal security of Nigeria and as multi-million jobs creator will be the subject of another day. I hope your Excellency will give it a consideration in the interest of our nation.
Thanks for reading my mail.
My Best Regards,
Tayo Fabuluje.
