Final Call: Safety & Security Award Applications – Age Friendly Awards 2026 🛡️

There’s still time to apply! The deadline for the National Age Friendly Recognition & Achievement Awards 2026 has been extended to Friday, 5 June.

Age Friendly Ireland is encouraging applications for projects that help older people feel safe, supported and confident at home and in their communities.
Whether you’re part of a community group, local authority, emergency service, business, or a local volunteer initiative — if your work supports older people’s safety, independence and wellbeing, we want to hear from you.

✨ Now in their 10th year, these awards celebrate impactful projects and share ideas that can be replicated nationwide.
📍 Awards ceremony: 8 October 2026, Limerick

The 2026 Community Safety Fund is OPEN for applications! 👈

This annual fund, totaling €4.75 million in 2026, supports local projects that strengthen community wellbeing and enhance safety. The funding enables resources recovered by the State to be reinvested directly into initiatives that make a positive difference in communities across Ireland.🍀

Grants available range from €20,000 to €150,000 per project, and applications will be accepted until 18 May 2026 (5pm sharp)⏰

Who can apply❔
Community safety initiatives, as well as projects delivered in partnership with local authorities, NGOs and community organisations working on issues related to community safety and youth development.

Previously supported projects have focused on initiatives that:

🔵 Increase feelings of safety and reassurance within communities

🔵 Support the development of safe, inclusive and resilient neighbourhoods

🔵 Encourage positive life choices and long-term community participation

🔵 Provide early support and diversion for individuals who may be vulnerable or at risk

📢 Cork County Local Community Safety Partnership Holds First Meeting

The first meeting of the Cork County Local Community Safety Partnership (CCLCSP) took place on March 23rd in County Hall, marking the beginning of a new, collaborative approach to enhancing community safety across Cork County.

This new Partnership brings together local residents, elected members, An Garda Síochána, businesses, community & voluntary organisations, and state agencies—all working collectively to ensure community concerns are addressed through coordinated, multi agency action.

At the inaugural meeting:
✅ Cllr. Cathal Rasmussen was elected Chairperson
✅ Cllr. Patrick Donovan was elected Vice Chairperson
Both appointments were unanimously ratified.

The CCLCSP will identify local safety issues, strengthen community led responses, and develop a tailored Local Community Safety Plan, informed by extensive public consultation.
