The view from the scaffold on the Ballycotton sea church was breathtaking and clearly slowed down progress. We're very happy with the result nevertheless. A few mortar repairs and some necessary replacements and the windows look presentable again.

These will look beautiful. And what a wonderful way to celebrate a great mind.

Our Story

With more than 40 years of combined expertise in traditional stone work, practical stone conservation and project planning, Christian and Julia are confident in providing their clients with the best services in stone and masonry conservation. All of their practical conservation works respect the sensitivity and complexity of historic buildings and objects in stone and are based on the established conservation principles and state of the art conservation practices. Julia and Christian carry out detailed condition surveys of historic stone and masonry fabric and are experienced in the preparation of comprehensive conservation plans and specifications. They also assist in the supervision and planning of larger conservation projects. With their team of trained masons and highly skilled architectural stone cutters they can provide the full spectrum of specialised stone works from the planning stages to the conservation, cleaning, reconstruction and maintenance of stone elements and masonry. Building on a strong relationship with their clients, they work with architects, engineers, conservation officers and archaeologists to achieve the best possible result in all of their projects.

Julia completed her apprenticeship and her Master Craftsman’s Diploma in Architectural Stonecutting and Sculpting in Germany before she came to Ireland in 2006. Specialising in the conservation of stone and masonry, she has since worked as a stone cutter and conservation consultant on numerous private and public conservation projects in Ireland, Italy and Germany. She trained in stone conservation at the Centro Europeo per i Mestieri del Patrimonio in Thiene/Italy, and completed the BSc Management (Craft) at LIT and the PGrad. Dip. in Building Repair and Conservation at Trinity College Dublin with distinction. Projects include the recent conservation of Cormac’s Chapel on the Rock of Cashel for the Office of Public Works, Belvelly Castle, Sea Church, Ballycotton, and St. Mary’s, Carrigtwohill. She is also a registered member of the ICRI (Institute of Conservator-Restorers Ireland).

Christian is a fully qualified Mason and Stonecarver. Originally from Germany, he owns a successful Stonemasonry & Stonecarving business in Cork for the past 10 years, mainly undertaking specialised stone conservation works and hand crafted custom stone carvings. His expertise is well known throughout Ireland. He has been involved in many exciting Heritage projects, such as the Conservation works on the Town Wall in Bandon, Spike Island, UCC and Belvelly Castle.
