Donegal Green Party Vote NUALA CARR No. 1 on the 29th

Mica Misery in the Childcare Sector

Last week Green Party candidate Nuala Carr visited the Letterkenny Community Childcare Centre to witness the shocking state of the mica-riddled facility and hear from Centre Manager Geraldine Burke about their daily struggle to keep going without any meaningful funding.

Watch the short clip of Nuala’s’ visit to the Letterkenny Community Childcare Centre.

“Kids in Raphoe trudging from portacabin to portaloo, 100 families in Ardara vulnerable, 28 staff and 175 children in Letterkenny facing a bleak winter – this is the mica misery for community childcare in Donegal. It’s just not acceptable,” said Nuala Carr.

An environmental Scientist, the Green Party candidate has pledged support for 100% redress of mica-affected homes & businesses in Donegal. This commitment comes in response to the ongoing crisis caused by defective building materials that have left many families and local organisations facing terrible conditions.

It's a Dirty Job but Someone's Got to Do It.

No, not politics – saving the environment!

As part of the EU Intelligent Cities Challenge, the North West City Region / Ireland Northwest, gathered at Clonmany Community Gardens on Sunday November 10th to collectively build a Johnson-Su Bioreactor.

Led by experts from KPM Soils and The Inishowen Rivers Trust, this Regenerative Soil Project is promoting and demonstrating the vital importance of healthy soil for climate change mitigation and biodiversity, while also putting human physical and mental health high up on the agenda.

Collaborative grassroots projects such as this, work both for the benefit of communities and for the environment in which we live, protecting, restoring and improving our soils and habitats.

Green Party candidate Nuala Carr went along to the Local Green Deal Regenerative Soil Project in Clonmany. Nuala and other local volunteers got stuck into the building of the bioreactor directed by Kevin Moore and Claire Thompson Moore of KPM Soils.

Donegal is privileged to have such extensive expertise within KPM Soils. Their work is not only fascinating, but a real eye opener to see what a little science, a few drain pipes and people knee-deep in muck can actually achieve.

Green Party candidate Nuala Carr, who is also an environmental scientist loves this initiative – “Throughout the world soil health is under pressure, which in turn affects agricultural produce. Projects like this give Mother Nature a helping hand to rebalance soil ecosystems which should be full of micro-organisms, like fungi, bacteria and nutrients. These complex relationships within our soils determine the quality of what we choose to grow in it”.

There was a great turnout at the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association debate last night in Glenswilly

One topic that came up was the introduction of more greenways around the county. Greenways are a fantastic way to make cycling more accessible to all. Safe, protected cycle tracks are a huge draw for tourists and can highlight Donegal's stunning landscapes

I'm determined to make cycling more accessible in Donegal for locals and tourists alike

I don’t have a rich benefactor like Elon Musk to fund my campaign, to have an agenda pushed.

In truth there’s half a dozen of us on the streets against the might of the big parties.

If you can spare even an hour to help canvassing over the remaining few days of the election, I’d really appreciate your support. Let’s fight climate change one hour at a time. PM me.

The Greens are still the only party taking nature seriously.

We have delivered a 135% increase in National Parks and Wildlife Service funding since 2020, raising the capacity of the service to protect our parks.

We have set up Biodiversity Officers in every county, established new national parks and reintroduced and protected threatened species.

We have also recently secured the creation of a €3.15bn Climate and Nature Fund to make sure the work we need to do to restore nature nationwide is funded in good times and bad.

So, if you take nature protection as seriously as we do vote Green on June 7th
