When people think about fostering, they often picture one kind of family and one kind of experience.

But fostering can look very different depending on what a child needs at that moment in their life.

For some children, it’s a safe place to stay for a few nights during a crisis. For others, it’s a longer-term home where they can settle, grow, and feel part of everyday family life.

Some foster carers support brothers and sisters to stay together. Some provide respite care, offering planned short breaks that support children and other foster families. Some care for children with additional needs, with extra training and support around them. Some support young parents and their babies.

No two children are the same, and no two foster families are the same either.

What matters most is being able to offer warmth, patience, and a home where a child can begin to feel safe again.

If fostering is something you’ve been thinking about, we’re always happy to have a conversation.

There are a lot of myths around foster care, and they stop many people from even exploring it.

You don’t need to be married, own a big house, or have children of your own to foster. What matters most is being able to offer a safe, stable and caring home for a child.

If you’ve ever quietly thought about fostering, but weren’t sure whether you’d “fit”, it’s always worth having a conversation.

Contact our team for an informal chat. We’ll answer any questions you have, talk honestly about the process, and help demystify some of the common myths around fostering.

There’s still time to Step Up for Foster Care this May 💛

With this glorious sunshine, it’s the perfect opportunity to get outside, enjoy a walk, and support the Irish Foster Care Association’s campaign ☀️👟

As May comes to an end, we’d love to give one final push to help raise awareness of fostering and recognise the incredible difference foster carers make every single day.

At Five Rivers Fostering, we see just how important safe, caring, and supportive homes are for children and young people. By taking part, you’re helping more people learn about fostering and the impact it can have on a child’s life.

Getting involved is simple:
👟 Go for a walk
📸 Share a photo from your walk
🤝 Encourage others to join in too

Every step helps raise awareness 💛

☕🐾 You’re Invited to Our Next Coffee Morning 🐾☕

We are looking forward to welcoming carers living in North Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan to our next Coffee Morning on Tuesday, 27th May at 10:30 am.

📍 Meath. DM for details.

Join us for coffee, lovely food and a relaxed catch-up with foster carers from the surrounding area, along with members of the Five Rivers team.

This outdoor coffee morning will also celebrate our wonderful “Doggies that Foster” 🐶 Many of our foster families have much-loved four-legged family members who play such an important role in helping young people feel settled, safe and part of the family.

Dogs are very welcome to join us (on a lead), and there is also an off-lead dog park beside the Takeaway Barn. Of course, there will be treats for the doggies… and maybe even a little surprise too! 🦴

Please RSVP by Wednesday, 20th May to [email protected], including your dog’s name if they’ll be attending 😊

When people think about fostering, they often picture one thing.

But fostering can look very different depending on the needs of each child.

Sometimes it’s offering a safe place for a single night.
Sometimes it’s caring for a child long-term.
Sometimes it’s helping brothers and sisters stay together.
Sometimes it’s giving another foster family a much-needed break.

What stays the same is this: children need somewhere they can feel safe, settled, and cared for by adults who keep showing up for them.

There’s no single type of foster carer.
And you don’t need to have everything figured out before asking questions.

If fostering is something you’ve been quietly thinking about, we’re here for a conversation whenever you’re ready.

Today is International Day of Families 💙

Families come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life, backgrounds, cultures and nationalities.

At Five Rivers Fostering, we know there is no one definition of family. What matters most is providing a safe, caring and supportive home where children can feel valued, supported and loved.

We are proud to celebrate all families today, including the incredible foster families who make such a difference in children’s lives every day.

The impact of fostering lasts far beyond childhood. 💛

Christine has fostered with Five Rivers for many years, caring for countless children, and many of those relationships are still part of her life today. Some still call round to see her, some she bumps into while out shopping, and one young person is now studying towards a Master’s degree while continuing to live with her.

Because when a child feels safe, supported, and truly cared for, that connection stays with them.
Fostering leaves a lasting mark, not just on a child’s life, but on your heart too.
“Fostering is really an extension of your family.”

Could you foster like Christine? DM for more information.
