Irish Europeans

Irish Europeans One Europe for all our nations I was 18 years old and we were discussing politics, football and the nice looking girls over at the far side of the pub.

I used to think that I invented the European Union in 1982 with a few friends over a couple of pints of Guinness in O'Neill's pub on Suffolk street in Dublin. It was no more than a laugh and an idea that wouldn't it be great if there were something like the United States of America only in Europe. That is where the seed was planted and steadily grew in my head over the coming years. Ireland first

applied to join the EEC in July of 1961. Official accession talks began in October of that year. When de Gaulles France vetoed Britains entry in 1963, Irelands application went into cold storage. We applied again in May 1967 but by December of that year de Gaulle had again vetoed britains entry and we were sidelined once again. the Commission closed talks with Ireland. Official talks were opened for the third time in 1970 which led to an overwhelming acceptance in the 1972 referendum and we finally joined in 1973, as did Britain.

Should we thank Putin/Trump for forcing Europe to come together as a single entity?

Choose to be European. No need to make it a public declaration. Simply say to yourself, "I'm European" and continue with your day🥰

Trump and Putin seem to agree that Europe is facing "civilisation erasure".

It's an interesting viewpoint. My assumption is that the middle east/African cultures are replacing German, Spanish, English,English, Swedish etc etc cultures.

I think they are half right.

Yes the individual cultures of European nations are becoming less strong.

They are being replaced.

They are being replaced by the new European Culture.

The USA and Russia have equally controlled the European continent for most of the 20th century.

Russia and US have had more troops based in European countries than they have anywhere else on earth.

They have been in almost total control of East and West Europe and are now terrified of a a new United European State emerging as a major economic, political and military threat.

The new European Culture is the inevitable outcome of the European Union.
None of the old cultures is strong enough to stand alone.

Living in the EU provides a sense of stability.

According to a recent Eurobarometer survey, the EU is viewed as a place of stability by its citizens, with more than 7 out of 10 respondents saying that their country has benefitted from being a member of the EU.

Following President von der Leyen’s announcement in her address, today we are presenting our proposals to the Council to:

-Suspend certain trade-related provisions of the Association Agreement between the EU and Israel.

-Impose sanctions against Hamas, extremist ministers of the Israeli government and violent settlers.

We are also putting on hold bilateral support to Israel, with the exception of support to civil society and Yad Vashem.

The horrific events taking place in Gaza on a daily basis must stop.

There needs to be an immediate ceasefire, unrestrained access for all humanitarian aid, and the release of all hostages held by Hamas.

Our Story

I used to think that I invented the European Union in 1982 with a few friends over a couple of pints of Guinness in O'Neill's pub on Suffolk street in Dublin. I was 18 years old and we were discussing politics, football and the nice looking girls over at the far side of the pub. It was no more than a laugh and an idea that wouldn't it be great if there were something like the United States of America only in Europe. That is where the seed was planted and steadily grew in my head over the coming years. Ireland first applied to join the EEC in July of 1961. Official accession talks began in October of that year. We applied again in May 1967. Official talks were opened for the third time in 1970 which led to an overwhelming acceptance in the 1972 referendum and we finally joined in 1973.

Since then my ideas and views on European Union have deepened. I am now very keen on the idea of a European Republic or at least a Federation of European States.
