Jack Teeling vs The Liberties Community
Venture Capitalist Jack Teeling has declared war on the working class communities of the liberties from his multi millionaire home in Clontarf.
Having been a major player in the gentrification of the area, Teeling has now set his sights on forcing the closure of the Anne Devlin Community Centre. The much needed community space and resource in the Liberties has been opened in the long vacant, former Ardee House pub owned by Jack Teeling, which he has land banked since 2017 as part of his role in the gentrification of the liberties and now, with rushed planning permission since the liberation of the centre, has announced he plans to construct build to rent apartments for massive profit on the site.
A laughable part of the application is the inclusion of a ‘community space’, which further investigation establishes is a facility for the private tenants of his built for profit apartments and not for the local community of the liberties who Teeling has continued to ignore.
A further part of his war against the community is his hiring of the private security firm BlackWater Assets Management, linked to many evictions of Irish families from their home, who have used military fatigue-wearing juiced up private mercenaries to attempt to intimidate the local community and those working to establish the Anne Devlin Community Centre.
Venture capitalists like Jack Teeling are only interested in profit and their own selfish interests and could never understand the motivation of the genuine Republican Community Activism being carried out by the Revolutionary Housing League and other Socialist Republicans along with volunteers from the local
Community.
The level of support has been overwhelming with hundreds of members of the community wanting to take part, making donations and spreading the word online.
In his response, Jack Teeling has made life long enemies in this community. In his rush to secure the interest of his private purse, he has shown he is incapable and unwilling to play any role in the local community, and has forgotten that the Dublin working class has a very long memory.
Since the liberation of this much needed community space, Teeling has made one nightmare PR decision after another from hiring mercenaries to preventing tagging or comments across personal and Teelings Whiskey Social Media in a further attempt to silence and ignore the people of the liberties.
He should ask his fellow member of Ireland’s Golden Circle Joe O’Reilly, how he fared when he decided to take on the RHL and those volunteers housing the homeless in Seán Hueston House and if the loss to his profits were worth it. He should consider the reputation of his biggest earner in the eyes of public opinion both nationally and internationally and ask himself if the war against the community will be worth the loss to his profits the current damage to his reputation will result in.
For our part, Anti-Imperialist Action Ireland stands firmly behind the RHL and the local community in this initiative and we will continue to expose the actions of Jack Teeling and his private mercenaries from BlackWater and will ensure that all our friends and supporters at home and abroad highlight it too.
The Anne Devlin Community Centre should be the model for communities across Ireland to take direct action and power into their own hands and take back empty buildings and open all empty homes.
Jack Teeling will only have himself to blame when the community, frustrated by his actions, bring the protests to his doors!
