A Message of Thanks from the Harrington Family.

Now that our beloved Conor has been laid to rest, we want to take a moment, from the bottom of our hearts, to thank the many people and organisations who helped us search for him, supported us, and stood beside our family through the darkest and most heartbreaking weeks of our lives.

There are truly no words that can capture our gratitude for the extraordinary compassion, endurance and humanity that surrounded us.

Our deepest thanks go to:

The Irish Coast Guard

The Irish Civil Defence

The Marine Institute

An Garda Síochána

The Oranmore Maree Coastal Search and Rescue Unit

Rockcorry Divers & North Coast Search & Recovery

The Galway Sub Aqua Club

The Nox Hotel

Colm Quinn BMW Galway

Enterprise Car Rental Galway

The Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service

The Limerick Sub Aqua Club

Carrickmacross Scouts

Carrick Aces Athletics Club

The University of Galway, including the Chaplaincy Team led by Father Ben

Father Shane, St. Joseph’s Church Cmx

RNLI Galway

RNLI Aran Islands and

RNLI Clare

Within each of these organisations there were individuals who went far above and beyond their day-to-day role, and we will both thank these people individually, but also can never forget them.

To the many many individual volunteers who walked difficult shorelines, searched in all weather, travelled long distances, shared updates, and kept hope alive when strength was hard to find, you bring us to tears every time we recall your humanity, your community and your support.

Each of you played a part in bringing Conor home. Your courage and kindness will stay with us forever, and we would not have made it to some kind of peace without you.

We also know there are more people and groups we may have inadvertently missed, who gave their time, their skills and their hearts. If we have missed anyone, please accept our sincere apologies, every act of help, every message, every meal, bun and mass card left at the door, every quiet kindness, has meant the world to us.

As we continue on this journey of grief and remembrance, we want people to know that Conor will be included in the Annual Remembrance Mass in St Joseph’s, Carrickmacross, this Sunday (23rd Nov) at 16:00.

In addition, Conor’s Month’s Mind Mass will take place at 11:00 on Saturday, 13th December 2025, also in St Joseph’s Church.

From our family to yours, thank you for your compassion, your prayers and your strength. You have shown us that even in the deepest sorrow, community, goodness and love endure.

With love and gratitude,

John, Deirdre, Cian and the extended Harrington and Boyle family - and Conor, from afar.

Update on the Search for Conor Harrington:

It is with deepest sadness that we share that a body has been recovered farther west along the coast than anyone had expected. Formal identification has not yet been confirmed, but is in process.

As a result, all search activities have been temporarily stood down pending official confirmation. We will let everyone know the outcome in due course, once confirmation has been received.

We can only apologise for the pre-emptive information some of the media have ran with, that has no approval from us, on either content or timing.

In the meantime, we wish to express our heartfelt and profound gratitude to everyone who has helped in the search for Conor over these past days and nights.

Our sincere thanks go to:

An Garda Síochána

The RNLI

The Irish Coast Guard

Civil Defence

Boyne, RockCorry and Limerick Dive Clubs

The Scouting unit in Carrickmacross

The Oranmore Maree Coastal Search and Rescue Team, whose tireless efforts, professionalism, and compassion have meant so much to us.

And to the Nox Hotel, for their kindness and generous support throughout these difficult days.

To the countless volunteers - friends, neighbours, and strangers - who walked the shores, brought and operated drones, dived in the waters, shared posts, made meals and stood beside us through the long days and nights: please know that your compassion and dedication have touched us deeply.

This message serves as a preliminary note to acknowledge the recovery and to thank everyone involved. Once identification is confirmed, we will share a more detailed message to thank, by name where possible, the many individuals and groups who have given so much of themselves to help us find Conor.

From the depths of our hearts, Deirdre, Cian, and I, together with Conor’s extended family, want to say that your kindness, strength, and solidarity have carried us through the darkest of hours.

For now, we please ask for privacy as we await confirmation and begin to process this devastating news.

With love and deep gratitude,
The Harrington Family 💙
