Threats to use Free State forces against fuel crisis protesters must be lifted.

The IRSP describes the threats to deploy Free State forces against people protesting the fuel crisis as outrageous, these warnings must be withdrawn immediately.

We oppose turning Free State forces on concerned people who are demanding action on deeper cuts to fuel taxes, the capping of diesel prices, and broader relief for families pushed into survival mode.

Fuel protesters are only responding to a crisis driven by capitalist global instability and soaring prices linked to US and Israeli imperialist military actions, not acting out of malice. Families are being pushed into survival mode as costs rise and essential services face delays.

The demands for deeper cuts to fuel taxes, a cap on diesel prices, and real relief for households are presented as basic measures needed to keep people afloat.
Instead of threatening force, the IRSP say the Free State should listen to the communities bearing the brunt of the crisis.

For many, this is about fairness, dignity, and the right to demand action when everyday life becomes unaffordable.

The IRSP in Galway welcome the news that the Galway Ring Road has been granted approval.

For too long Galway has been the epicentre of some of the worst traffic in not just Ireland but Europe as a whole. Galway ranks just below Dublin nationally for traffic and often ranks in the top 10% globally for traffic.

The traffic situation in Galway seriously puts the town at risk of losing business and tourism as getting into Galway via the N17, N84, N59 and N6 can often take 1-2 hours, with the Tuam and Headford roads being especially bad for traffic.

People have wanted a ring road for 20 years and the plans have been constantly shelved, denied and stalled on by local and national government. This has led to the traffic situation getting worse as the plans for the ring road get put through limbo for various reasons.

With the news that it will finally go ahead. The Galway IRSP are cautiously optimistic that these plans will be committed to as the government’s track record has shown they can say one thing and either do the opposite or nothing at all.

Much like the Athenry-Claremorris railway line’s reopening. We will be keeping a keen eye out for updates on Galway Ring Road developments.

The IRSP calls for the immediate release of Niall Sheerin, whose sentence has now been fully completed, with zero remission granted. Despite this, he continues to be detained under legislation known as MARA (Internment) a complex legal framework designed to prevent release or impose stringent conditions even after a sentence has been served.
This legislation involves probation services, statutory stakeholders, the PSNI, and the Department of Justice, with elected representatives also likely to have influence over its application.
The IRSP firmly opposes the use of this legislation and calls for the immediate release of Niall Sheerin.
