My Little Library Bag 2026

The focus of the My Little Library initiative is to build strong links between young children, their families and their local library and support children finishing pre-school and starting school.

The books and resources in the book bag support parents and their children in the transition to primary school. The bag contains books for the children to keep, with topics such as starting school, making friends and big emotions. It also has some very useful information for parents on supporting that start in primary school and what’s on offer at each local library.

Today is Make Way Day 2026
Last Wednesday, ahead of , 5th class pupils from Hospital NS joined Step Forward Disability Group to learn how cars parked on footpaths and other obstacles on footpaths affect access for people with disabilities.

Through an empathy walk with Step Forward group members and the Active Travel team, they saw first-hand how everyday obstacles like cars on footpaths, bins and narrow spaces can impact people using wheelchairs, white canes, mobility aides and buggies.

A short stop on the footpath can force someone onto the road.
Please take a moment to check your parking and keep footpaths clear.
Make Way Day is a campaign led by the Disability Federation of Ireland, bringing communities, voluntary organisations and local authorities together to highlight the needs of people with disabilities in the public spaces we all share.

At its core, it’s about ensuring people with disabilities can move safely, independently and with dignity in everyday environments.
