For many social care students, placement is a turning point. In 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, it was when she realised she’d found her place — a home, a team, and a meaningful career that felt right from the start.

Her progression to a full‑time role with Odyssey shows what can happen when the right environment gives someone the space and support to grow, contribute, and genuinely connect with the young people in their care.

Our Odyssey team member Katelyn Doory is doing the 𝗦𝗸𝘆𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 challenge to raise funds for Youth Su***de Prevention Ireland - YSPI.

Social Care Worker in Clondra House, Katelyn will take the plunge at The Irish Parachute Club (Skydive IPC) in Co. Offaly on Sunday, July 5th.

Jumping from an aeroplane is “completely outside my comfort zone,” but Katelyn is keen to support the incredible work of a charity which provides mental health awareness and su***de prevention programmes to schools and colleges, and supports many young people who are struggling.

We’re still feeling the wellbeing benefits a week on from Odyssey’s Team Hike for Jigsaw 🧩

And reviewing this highlights reel from Coumshingaun is creating that feelgood Friday energy!

⛰️ Our team tackled the scenic Comeragh foothills to raise funds for a charity making great strides supporting youth mental health. Jigsaw are set to open a new regional service in Waterford this year.

Every now and then we get a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. Like this meaningful message from a Guardian ad Litem following a young person’s Confirmation Day in one of Odyssey’s Munster homes:

At Odyssey, opportunities to empower the wellbeing of young people — and our teams — are always a win-win.

Last Friday we held a Team Hike at Coumshingaun Lough in Co. Waterford to fundraise for Jigsaw — a charity doing amazing work supporting young people's mental health across Ireland.

Lorcan and Davy from the Odyssey Saoirse Project — helped by some able young volunteers — guided hikers from Kilclooney Wood to the lake shore and back. Afterwards a very happy group refueled in nearby Kilmacthomas.

Events like this give our teams a chance to unwind and connect — and to advance Odyssey’s Value in the Community impact goals.

Our charity partner Jigsaw provides free, non-judgmental and confidential therapy to young people aged 12–25, and will soon open a new southeast regional service in Waterford.

A big well done to everyone who “stepped up” in the Comeragh Mountains, and to the Saoirse team for organising a super day outdoors.
