Ultimately we need a total and any sulkies horses raced on (public) roads need to be confiscated and surrended to Limerick Animal Welfare and My Lovely Horse Rescue.

🚨 Animal Welfare Must Come First 🐴💔

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) continues to call for action to , but sadly these urgent appeals are still being ignored by many politicians. Meanwhile, the situation on the ground keeps getting worse.

Sulky racing often operates like the wild west, taking advantage of the lack of proper legislation and enforcement. Without clear rules and accountability, horses are left vulnerable. No so-called tradition should ever come before animal welfare. It’s time for real change — and that change should be a full ban.

📢 Outcry is growing in Limerick as rescuers face daily calls about that are , neglected, and .

According to recent reports, Limerick Animal Welfare is now nearing capacity as volunteers struggle to respond to a surge in emergency cases involving abandoned or severely neglected horses.

One volunteer described the situation as “unbearable.” Horses are being found in fields without adequate grazing, left hungry, weak, and suffering.

A member of warned:

“The care of horses continues to deteriorate in and .”

These volunteers are doing everything they can, but rescue groups cannot carry this burden alone. Animals deserve protection through strong laws, proper enforcement, and real political will.

🐎 Every horse deserves safety, food, care, and dignity.
💔 Neglect and suffering should never be accepted as normal.

It’s time to listen to the voices speaking up for animals and finally put welfare before outdated practices.

PUBLIC STATEMENT: End Ireland’s

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) has been continuously campaigning against the of — an industry driven by greed, suffering, and exploitation.

Every , countless puppies are sold with no home checks, no proper vaccinations, and often from conditions no animal should ever have to endure. Weeks later, when the novelty wears off, many of these dogs are abandoned, tied to trees, or left to fend for themselves. This is the heartbreaking cycle we witness every single year.

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) welcomes the proposed Bill on stricter rules on introduced by the . However, even if adopted in principle in , the biggest challenge will remain . Without robust monitoring, inspections, penalties, and resources, illegal breeders will continue to operate unchecked — and animals will continue to suffer.

Ireland has long been known as the “puppy farm capital of Europe”, with dogs exported to illegal markets and breeding females pushed far beyond humane limits. Shelters such as and many others across the country are now overfull, struggling to cope with the never-ending intake of unwanted and mistreated dogs.

Stronger laws are essential — but laws alone won’t end puppy farming. We must also address the demand that fuels this cruelty.

✔️ Don’t buy puppies from breeders.
✔️ Don’t support an industry built on exploitation.
✔️ Adopt, don’t shop — choose .

Numerous (smaller) animal rescues are without sufficient financial support from the (local) government, and unfortunately, some receive no funding at all. It appears to be selective extraction. So many resort to smart ideas to raise funds.
