A lovely surprise at the station this weekend! 🧡

Members of Cork’s Indian community visited us to mark Rakshabandhan, a special festival celebrating the bond between siblings, where bracelets (rakhis) are tied as a symbol of protection and love.

They kindly extended that spirit to us, tying bracelets on our crew and treating us to some delicious homemade samosas, as a token of thanks for the service Cork City Fire Brigade provides to the public.

A huge thank you for such a thoughtful gesture — it really made our day! 🙏🧯

🔥 Help Prevent Gorse Fires This Summer 🔥

Over the past number of weeks, we have responded to several gorse fires across the city and surrounding areas. While they may appear small at first, gorse fires can spread rapidly in the current hot, dry conditions, threatening homes, wildlife, and putting firefighters at unnecessary risk.

You can help reduce the risk by:
🚫 Never lighting campfires or disposable BBQs in or near grassland or wooded areas.
🚬 Dispose of ci******es safely – never throw them from a car window or onto dry vegetation.
📞 If you spot a fire, move to a safe location and call 999 or 112 immediately. Do not attempt to tackle a spreading gorse fire yourself.

Together, we can help protect our communities, our countryside, and the crews working hard to keep everyone safe.

Crews are currently attending a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the South Ring Road westbound between the Mahon and Rochestown junctions.

Motorists should expect delays in the area and are advised to slow down and drive with caution. Gardaí and the National Ambulance Service are also at the scene.

Cork City Fire Brigade is urging the public to exercise caution during the current Yellow High Temperature Warning. Prolonged periods of hot, dry conditions increase the risk of dehydration, heat-related illness and outdoor fires. We ask everyone to stay hydrated, look out for vulnerable members of the community and avoid any activity that could accidentally ignite dry vegetation. Together, we can help keep Cork City safe during this period of elevated temperatures.

🔥 Increased Fire Risk During Hot Weather
High temperatures and dry conditions significantly increase the risk of grass, gorse and wildland fires.
Please:
❌ Do not light campfires or BBQs in parks, forests or open countryside
❌ Do not discard ci******es or matches from vehicles
❌ Avoid using machinery that could create sparks near dry vegetation

UPDATE, crews have been in attendance assisting our colleagues corkcountyfire at a significant gorse fire in Crosshaven.

Firefighters worked tirelessly alongside each other for over four hours to bring the incident under control. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the fire was successfully prevented from spreading to nearby homes, protecting local residents and property.

A great example of teamwork, professionalism and dedication by all crews involved.

We would also like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Our crews have been kept busy responding to a variety of incidents across the city, including an aerial platform rescue from the roof of a building last week and a road traffic collision this morning. 🚒

With the current spell of hot weather, we’re reminding everyone to take extra care. Stay hydrated, limit prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Dry conditions can also increase the risk of fire. Please dispose of ci******es safely and take extra care when using BBQs or other outdoor heat sources.

🚒☀️ Cork City Fire Brigade was out in force at this year’s Cork Summer Show, and what a fantastic day it was in the sunshine!

Visitors had the opportunity to meet their local firefighters, explore the Community Fire Safety Vehicle, and get a closer look at the specialist equipment used every day to keep our communities safe. Live demonstrations showcased Road Traffic Collision (RTC) equipment, Breathing Apparatus, and water rescue gear, giving families a real insight into the vital work carried out by CCFB.

Alongside the demonstrations, firefighters shared important fire safety advice, including:
🏠 Check your smoke alarms regularly
🚪 Keep doors closed at night
🗺️ Have a home escape plan
📞 In an emergency, Get Out, Stay Out and Call 999 or 112
📍 Know your Eircode to help emergency services reach you quickly

A key focus was also placed on the growing fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries in devices such as e-scooters and e-bikes. Visitors learned about the dangers of overcharging, charging overnight, and using damaged batteries or incorrect chargers.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to meet the crew and learn how small safety steps can make a big difference.

Check out our own Alex O’ Shea as he launches ‘The 150 Club’ marathon challenge for the Cork Marathon 2027.

Alex will be running the marathon in full fire kit and breathing apparatus and will be aims for a world record time.

He is looking for 150 people to join him in his fundraising effort for the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind
