Well done to Mickey Bravender and his team of volunteers on completion of another successful Teach Na Daoine summer camp.

Monaghan Gardai were again delighted to support this valuable initiative over the past four weeks which catered for approximately 60 7 to 14 year olds, with a fine mixture of children from the local area as well as from the non national community.

It is with the utmost sadness that we share the notice that serving Garda, Dermot Bland has unexpectedly passed away at his home on 11th August 2026..

Dermot who was currently serving in Balljamesduff, Co Cavan was formerly of Fenagh, Co Leitrim.

A loving husband and best friend to his wife Caitríona and a devoted proud daddy to his cherished children Eva, Killian, Conor, Kian, Jimmy, Sean, Daniel and Callum.

Dermot will be forever missed and always loved by his wife and children, brother James, father-in-law Walter (Hughes), sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and his many dear friends and his work colleagues in An Garda Síochána.

In life we loved you dearly,
In death we will love you still.
In our hearts you will hold a place,
No one could ever fill.
Rest in Peace Dermot.

Family Home Strictly Private Please

A community mass of rememberance will be held at Ballyjamesduff Garda Station at 6pm this evening.

A book of condolenes will also be opened there

Removal from his home on Friday 14th to arrive to St. Mary’s Church, Ennybegs for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Following Mass, Dermot will be laid to rest in the New Cemetery in Cullyfad

This weekend the residents of Lough na Glack in Carrickmacross held their first street party.

Several agencies worked together with the Lough na Glack residents association so that the community could enjoy some games, dancing and BBQ food.

Hopefully this is the first of many!

Chief Superintendent McGovern welcomed twenty-five new Probationer Gardaí to the Louth, Cavan, Monaghan Division this week.

We wish each of these new members every success as they begin their careers with An Garda Síochána.
