The Old Mill House Rosnaree

The Old Mill House Rosnaree A traditional smallholding in the heart of the historical UNESCO World Heritage Park, on the south banks of River Boyne. An area of great natural beauty.

Here at the Old Mill House Rosnaree, we are a traditional smallholding in the heart of the historical UNESCO World Heritage Park. Situated along the south banks of the River Boyne, and a short walking distance from Newgrange, we offer visitors an experience of both Ireland’s natural beauty and history. The land comprises of the Mill with its original wheel axel, a heritage damson orchard, and orga

nic kitchen garden. Set in almost 8 acres of beautiful fertile lands, the mill has been restored using traditional methods. The main interest of the site is the Sheila-na-gig stone, which has been apart of the mill for centuries. The Sheila is an ancient and powerful female fertility symbol. They are typically found in churches or churchyards. What makes our Sheila significant is that it is one of the three in County Meath and the only one found in connection with a water mill in all of Ireland. As part of the Boyne Valley, we at the Mill are a part of a landscape with huge historic, sacred, and environmental importance. We aspire to inform visitors of the significance of sites like our mill and those like it in the surrounding area to encourage continuing active conservation and awareness. Our aim is to give visitors and guests the opportunity to experience ecological, sustainable and historical aspects of this wonderful building and countryside, as well as becoming familiar with our eco-conscious living practices.

A Bewick Wren.
One of the little feathered friends who visit and sing for us every day.
14cm (5.5in) long. Grey-brown in colour with a long white eyebrow.
It sings loud and melodious. Lives near the Mill stream or in nearby hedgerows.
It eats spiders and insects it finds on the ground or on low vegetation.
