Kerry County Council is a vital agent in ensuring that the needs of both rural and urban communities are catered for. However, at the same time the Local Authority is required to take an overall, strategic view of the county to ensure that the future development of the county takes place in an integrated and planned manner. This is to ensure that the quality of life for current and future generations is safeguarded, having regard to the county’s unique historical, natural, cultural and sporting heritage. Together with our staff, and other agencies, including voluntary and state bodies, Kerry County Council seeks to enhance the quality of life of our people and visitors by building sustainable communities and delivering quality services. The Council provides the proper environment to allow the economic development of the county, with investment in essential infrastructure such as transport and communication links crucial in attracting and encouraging business interests to Kerry.

LEAF Fund 2026 – Applications Now Open

Applications are now open for the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF) 2026, supporting eligible Tidy Towns and voluntary community groups undertaking similar activities, including residents' associations.

The LEAF Fund supports community-led projects focused on climate action, biodiversity and environmental enhancement, helping communities work together to create a greener local environment.

Projects should demonstrate collaboration with at least one other community stakeholder group, such as a local school, sports club, youth group or other community organisation.

Please note: Applicant groups must be registered with their local Public Participation Network (PPN).

Applications open: 26th of August 2026
Application deadline: 25th of September 2026

Road Closure Decision Notice:

Kerry County Council has decided to close the N70 Sneem to Kenmare Road in the townlands of Drimna More and Drimna Beg from 500m southeast of Sneem Post Office to Local Road L7543 to public traffic.

Road Closing Times: five-day road closure from 9:30 am on Thursday 10th September until 7:00 pm on Monday 14th September 2026.

The purpose of the road closure is to facilitate the replacement of the N70 Drimna More Culvert.

An alternative route will be clearly signposted. The proposed diversion route can be viewed on https://www.kerrycoco.ie./

The Kerry Local Community Safety Partnership is hosting in-person public consultation sessions to develop the first Community Safety Plan for Kerry.

This Thursday, 27 August, an in-person public consultation session will be held at Killarney Library from 4 pm to 6 pm.

This is the final consultation session of August, with two more to follow in September.

For full details and times of all the consultation sessions, see the attached graphics.

The public can also contribute to the plan by completing the survey, available through Kerry County Council’s consultation portal, and by requesting paper copies through the library network.

The consultation portal will be live until 18 September 2026.
