CEWOOD Wood Wool Boards
Wood wool boards are made from long timber fibres bound with a mineral cement. This combination creates a panel that is robust, dimensionally stable and relatively low‑impact. The timber fibres provide flexibility and resilience, while the mineral binder contributes to fire resistance and longevity.
For projects that prioritise natural materials and low embodied energy, this type of board offers a practical balance of performance and sustainability.
One of the reasons wood wool boards are used in heritage and natural building work is their vapour‑open structure.
Moisture can move through the board rather than becoming trapped behind it. This is important in older buildings, where the walls are designed to absorb and release moisture rather than rely on impermeable barriers.
When paired with lime or clay plasters, the whole system remains breathable and helps maintain safe moisture levels within the building fabric.
Their open, fibrous texture also provides useful acoustic absorption, which can improve comfort in both domestic and public buildings.
Wood wool boards can be fixed to timber or metal frameworks and used on both walls and ceilings. This makes them suitable for internal linings, partitions, acoustic ceilings and as a carrier board where a strong, stable surface is needed.
The coarse texture of the wood fibres creates an excellent mechanical key for lime plasters. This helps reduce the risk of cracking or delamination and supports a fully vapour‑open finish.
When finished with breathable plasters and paints, the system works in harmony with traditional building materials.
Wood wool boards sit comfortably within both conservation work and natural new build projects.
