Mayor of Waterford Metropolitan District Cllr Lola O'Sullivan and Garda Mark Gavin at the newly unveiled kicking stone on Tramore Promenade this morning as part of the Vitamin Sea festival taking place all weekend.

Garda Gavin is more used to ultra marathons but will give the walking a go this morning in between patrols on the Garda mountain bike.

Today in Kilmeaden, Co Waterford, the driver of this vehicle was observed using his mobile phone while driving. This offence is classified as one of the Lifesaver offences - meaning that statistics show that the offence is a factor in road traffic collisions.

The offence is for holding the device, as it significantly contributes to the distraction of the driver, impairing the skills required to drive safely.

The driver was stopped and issued with a Fixed Charge Notice which results in a fine and penalty points.

Dungarvan Women's Group met this evening in Dungarvan and Sgt Deirdre O'Neill was delighted to present some advice on staying safe online, smart phone secuirty and home security.
Probationer Garda Dylan Connolly was slightly outnumbered but gave a good account of his training with AGS to date and we'll have to wait to see if it results in any recruits from this experienced group of women!!

🚛📱 Operation Iompair

Yesterday, members of the Waterford and Kilkenny Roads Policing Units conducted Operation Iompair, a road safety initiative aimed at detecting distracted driving and other road traffic offences.

Operation Iompair utilises an HGV tractor unit alongside both marked and unmarked Roads Policing vehicles, providing officers with an elevated vantage point to identify dangerous driving behaviours.

During the operation, a total of 51 offences were detected, including:

• 46 mobile phone offences 📱
• 5 seatbelt offences 🚗

Driver distraction remains a significant factor in road traffic collisions. We urge all road users to stay focused, put the phone away, and always wear a seatbelt.

Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone.

Gardaì attached to Tramore Garda Station carried out a checkpoint today and although it was a lovely day for a drive, you must have a licenced driver with you if you are a learner driver.

Two drivers had their cars seized today under Section 41 RTA.

Court proceedings to follow. Know the law, don't take the risk.

Sometimes you just need to take a break and spend 5 mins in the Memorial Garden at Waterford Garda Station, grab a snack and take it all in.

Our new addition is making himself at home in the station yard.
