Sign our online petition in support of our member who was sacked by Tesco for trade union organising. We demand reinstatement and call on Tesco to stop union busting!

While Tesco CEO and Cork local Ken Murphy took home €12.4 million in pay and benefits last year, workers in Tesco stores across the country have been experiencing worsening conditions in their workplace. The recent roll out of the Whoosh delivery service has put a significant amount of extra work and stress on Tesco staff, with no additional resourcing or pay.

Our member was sacked by Tesco for speaking to workers in other Tesco stores about the Whoosh delivery service to ascertain if they felt the same way as her and her co-workers in the St Finbarr’s Tesco Express. Workers in other stores felt exactly the same way: overworked and underpaid, with no acknowledgment of the additional pressure the Whoosh delivery service was putting on them for what is clearly a lucrative venture for Tesco.

It is not a crime to talk to your Co-workers about issues in your workplace. In fact, it is illegal to dismiss a worker for trade union activity in Ireland. We must show Tesco that they are not above the law and demand the immediate reinstatement of our member!

¡Manos fuera de Cuba! Hands Off Cuba!

The CYM resolutely condemns the US’s recent escalations against the people of Cuba. Recently it was announced that the US was issuing an indictment against Cuban revolutionary leader Raúl Castro. This is yet another stage in the imperialist schemes of the US to crush the revolutionary Cuban government.

As the Irish government remains entirely silent in the face of a pending military intervention against Cuba, it falls to the working class youth of Ireland to build unbreakable links of solidarity with the Cuban people. We stand firmly with the Cuban people and the Communist Party of Cuba in their struggle against the imperialist encirclement of the US.

¡Hasta la Victoria, Siempre!

On the 30th of April, the Connolly Youth Movement organised a protest outside St. Finbarr's Tesco Express in Cork to demand that Tesco reinstate our member who has been sacked from her job for the basic act of trade union organising. Watch to hear more about the events that led to her being sacked, and the ongoing appeal she has against Tesco’s blatant union busting.

End Union Busting Now!

🗞️ New Article: Support the Striking Ambulance Workers! ✊

Today over 2000 ambulance workers in SIPTU and UNITE trade unions went on strike after six years of HSE refusing to implement pay increases recommended by an independent report on changes to the roles and responsibilities of paramedics and EMTs. We send our full support to the workers in their struggle for fair pay recognition.

Our strength lies in organisation and collective action!Victory to the Striking Workers!

As we mark 110 years since the brutal ex*****on of the Socialist-Republican hero; James Connolly, we renew our commitment to the fight against militarism and capitalist imperialism.

As Connolly himself wrote in 1898:
"The influence which impels towards war today is the influence of capitalism. Every war now is a capitalist move for new markets, and it is a move capitalism must make or perish."

These words ring as true today as they did in Connolly's time, as we witness the rise of military spending and further integration into NATO imperialism coincide with the worsening of conditions for the working class. James Connolly recognised, as we do today, that the only thing capitalist wars bring to the working class is death and suffering.

These imperialist wars are a necessity for the continuation of exploitation and the dominance of the capitalist class. Just as it was in 1916, the call for worker's unity and liberation we now issue to the people of Ireland is a nobler call than any call issued to them by the war-mongering ruling class.

No to imperialist wars!

Long live the revolutionary legacy of James Connolly!

On this day 81 years ago Nazi-Fascism was defeated by the people of the Socialist USSR. The Soviet people, who suffered the most casualties and paid the biggest price for the defeat of fascism, proved the superiority of the socialist system over capitalism through their heroic struggle.

Capitalist forces consistently attempt to deny this achievement of socialism, such as “Europe Day” from the EU, which seeks to equate the monster of fascism with communism, and nullify the sacrifices of communists made in the defeat of fascism.

Today, we honour the millions who gave their lives to the struggle against fascism: the Soviet army, the partisans and the international working class. We recognise however, that the defeat of fascism is not complete. Fascism is a direct product of the capitalist system. Only when capitalism is fully overthrown, can the people fully prevail over the fascist beast.

Long live the victory of the people over fascism!

Long live the heroic struggle of the working class!

After 66 days persevering on Hunger Strike, Bobby Sands was martyred in the confines of the H Blocks, 45 years ago today. 🇮🇪🚩

The CYM's Delegation to Cuba speaks here on our unbroken commitment to proletarian internationalism, at a time where we acknowledge one of Ireland's bravest fighters for the struggle for a 32 county socialist republic.

Cubans have also acknowledged our struggle for self-determination, as we reflected by the memorial to the 1981 Irish Republican Hunger Strikers in Havana.

On May Day, our comrades marched in honour and celebrations of the workers who shed blood to advance our class struggle.

Today we continue to organise, because we, the youth, won't pay the price for their wars! The Connolly Youth Movement is building the revolutionary counter-offensive to make sure of it.

Delegates from the Connolly Youth Movement have touched down in Cuba for the international May Day Brigade. 🇮🇪🚩🇨🇺

We extend our proletarian internationalism from Ireland to the courageous project of building socialism-communism in the face of imperialist adversity in Cuba! Our members have brought urgent medical supplies collected over the past few months.

Our members are seeing the reality of the US blockade firsthand with medicine shortages, blackouts, and fuel scarcity. Yet the steadfastness of Cubans is evident, with their commitment to the working class, in free healthcare, free education, and public housing for all. These are socialist gains that imperialists cannot crush!

Our members have also visited the Freedom City (built on a former Batista barracks, now turned into a city of schools), and learned from a veteran involved with MPLA during the Angolan liberation struggle. Today, we marched in Revolutionary Square for May Day celebrations in the country that has been at the fore in leading the cause of workers everywhere.

Cuba has faced the same enemy as Ireland in the bourgeoisie of imperialist nations. Our conviction in our message for working class victory the same: ¡Patria o muerte!

/ End the blockade!
