🚩 The recent comments by Andy Burnham that a border poll is 'off the table' confirm what we already knew: that the British bourgeoisie has no intention of giving up the 6 counties. The backlash of pro-unity parties such as Sinn Fein and Fianna Fáil is nothing but an expression of their own desire to create 32-county capitalist rule in favour of Irish monopolies. The only way out lies a 32 county socialist state, won by the struggle of the working class of Ireland to free itself from the shackles of exploitation and British occupation!

🚩 113 years ago, a historic confrontation between the working class and the capitalists took place in Dublin. The bosses threw their workers to the street in an attempt to strangle the rising Irish working class movement, while the workers of Dublin stood side by side in defiance of their masters.

The years prior to the lockout had seen the Irish working class make rapid advances in organisation and militancy under the impetus of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU). Seeing their profits under threat, the employers responded by locking out over 20,000 members of the ITGWU.

Over the course of the lockout, the employers, with the aid of the state and the Catholic Church as anti-communist actors, used the most barbaric tactics to repress workers, including blacklisting, savage police violence and the wholesale starvation of Dublin's organised working class.

The working class did not take these attacks lying down, with the lockout leading to the historic formation of the Irish Citizen Army (ICA) in order to defend themselves from the savage repression. The ICA would go on to form some of the most heroic units during the 1916 Rising, who struggled for the emancipation of the working class from capitalist tyranny.

The 1913 Lockout is a historic achievement of the Irish working class. The victory of the employers in this struggle was only temporary, as the fight gave way to the formation of a militant Irish working class movement. The images of militancy and solidarity displayed during the lockout have become inseparable parts of our movement, continuing to inspire the struggles of the Irish working class to this day.

The task of the CYM, as the communist youth of Ireland, is to organise and complete the struggle of 1913, that is the overthrow of capitalist power and the building of a socialist Ireland.

🇨🇺 Viva Fidel!

Today marks 100 years since the birth of the great revolutionary Fidel Castro. Fidel's leadership was instrumental in the success of the Cuban Revolution, which overthrew capitalist rule in Cuba and established socialism in its place, leading to rapid developments in healthcare, education and housing.

In the face of intensifying economic strangulation by the US and EU, the Cuban Revolution refuses to bow and continues the courageous project of building socialism-communism.

We condemn these imperialist maneuvers against Cuba, particularly the Irish government's support for criminal EU sanctions, and extend our full proletarian internationalism to the Cuban people.

On Fidel's birthday, let us follow his example in our own struggle for a socialist future.

🚩 Against the EU, NATO and Imperialism; the Communist Youth Prepare the Struggle for a New World!

This year’s instalment of the CYM Summer School has come to a close. The weekend saw CYM members from all across the island gather in Newcastle, Co. Down for a programme of sports, culture, discussion and learning. Through ideological-educational sessions, comrades shared skills in public speaking, examined the nature of modern imperialism, and more.

The four day programme equipped our members with the tools to carry forward our struggle towards a new world, a socialist future. ✊

🚩 Opening Ceremony of the 2026 CYM Summer School

Yesterday evening, comrades from every corner of Ireland gathered in Newcastle yesterday to commence our annual Summer School. The opening event heard a speech from CYM General Secretary, Adam Fagan, followed by a lecture on the Science of Learning.

As the contradictions of capitalism continue to deepen, we are facing a rapidly intensifying push towards NATO accession by the 26-county bourgeoisie. From July to December of this year, Ireland will hold the presidency of the EU, marking the further integration of the capitalist class into the imperialist system - at the expense of the Irish working class.

The communist youth have no illusions of a future of peace or security under imperialism. The blood-soaked and exploitative system of imperialism offers nothing but war and oppression to the youth and the working class.

We come together this weekend under the slogan 'Against the EU, NATO and Imperialism; the Communist Youth Prepare the Struggle for a New World!', we reaffirm our committment to the fight for socialism - and for a real future for the Irish working youth! 🚩

🇨🇺 No War on Cuba!

On Saturday the Connolly Youth Movement joined the demonstration organised by outside the US Embassy to oppose the ongoing US aggression against socialist Cuba.

The attempts by the US to strangle socialist Cuba with the support of the EU and other allies are not isolated acts, but rather part of the strategy of the world's top imperialists. Cuba poses a unique threat to the imperialist system. It shows the working class internationally that a system of exploitation is not inevitable, that a society is possible where the oppression of man by man is overcome. Cuba stands resolute and firm as a beacon of hope to the workers of the world. A blow to socialist Cuba is a blow to the working class the world over.

We stand with the Communist Party and the Union of Communist Youth; we support the peoples, who alone have the right to determine the course of events in their own countries. We support the common struggle of the peoples against capitalist–imperialist barbarity and the joint struggle to abolish the capitalist system of exploitation.

We along with the Cuban people hope that a peaceful resolution can be found. However if the US imperialists abandon all humanity and continue down this murderous path against Cuba they will be met by the entire force of a people united by one eternal cry: Patria o Muerte, Venceramos! 🇨🇺

This 4th of July, the Connolly Youth Movement will join the demonstration outside the US Embassy and demand No War On Cuba! 🇨🇺

The intensification of the US blockade on Cuba is causing fuel shortages so great that it is leading to blackouts in critical infrastructure such as hospitals and schools. These criminal acts have been entirely ignored by the Irish government and actively aided by the EU. In recent weeks MEPs, including all Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael MEPs, voted in favour of a resolution urging the EU to sanction Cuba.

The threat of military intervention is greater now more than ever. As such, the task of solidarity with the Cuban people falls to us. While the US celebrates 250 years of independence this 4th of July, we are calling for Irish trade unions, solidarity groups and sympathetic political organisations to rally behind the demands set by the Cuban people. ✊🇨🇺

Say No to the EU Presidency of Capitalism, War & Genocide!❌🇪🇺

The Council of EU Presidency opened in Ireland yesterday, seeing the 26 county Government welcome the top capitalists of the EU with open arms. It was reported that the hosting of the Presidency could cost the State up to €400 million, in part due to the high volume of security personnel deployed which have seen streets of the country crawling with Gardaí and some streets or venues even on total lock down. As the Irish bourgeoisie roll out the red carpet for the EU and its allies, the Communist Youth ask: what does the EU Presidency actually mean for the working class and youth of Ireland? Swipe to find out more!

🇨🇺 On Tuesday, the CYM International Officer, National Chairperson, and CYM delegate from our recent trip to Cuba to deliver medical aid, met with Elizabeth Ribalta, official of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). The meeting took place in the Cuban Embassy where we also had the opportunity to meet with Cuban Ambassador to Ireland, Bernardo Guanche Hernández. Through the course of the exchange, we reiterated the unwavering support of of our organisation towards the Cuban Revolution, and our intention to strengthen the longstanding solidarity which has existed between the Irish and Cuban people.

Sign our online petition in support of our member who was sacked by Tesco for trade union organising. We demand reinstatement and call on Tesco to stop union busting!

While Tesco CEO and Cork local Ken Murphy took home €12.4 million in pay and benefits last year, workers in Tesco stores across the country have been experiencing worsening conditions in their workplace. The recent roll out of the Whoosh delivery service has put a significant amount of extra work and stress on Tesco staff, with no additional resourcing or pay.

Our member was sacked by Tesco for speaking to workers in other Tesco stores about the Whoosh delivery service to ascertain if they felt the same way as her and her co-workers in the St Finbarr’s Tesco Express. Workers in other stores felt exactly the same way: overworked and underpaid, with no acknowledgment of the additional pressure the Whoosh delivery service was putting on them for what is clearly a lucrative venture for Tesco.

It is not a crime to talk to your Co-workers about issues in your workplace. In fact, it is illegal to dismiss a worker for trade union activity in Ireland. We must show Tesco that they are not above the law and demand the immediate reinstatement of our member!

Sign the petition via the link in our bio. End union busting!
