The Government of Goa, through Department of Science, Technology and Waste Management, has instituted an annual award, 'Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award', for a young scientist with proven excellence, and promise of performance in future. The award, which will be handed out for the second time on 13 December 2024, carries a cash prize of five lakh rupees and a citation.

The last date for submission of application is extended to 30th September 2024.

Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award 2023

Late Shri Manohar Parrikar who served as Chief Minister of Goa and Defense Minister of India believed that the country, particularly its youth, should pursue excellence in science and technology. As a reminder of this ideal, the State of Goa celebrates his birth anniversary (13th December) as “Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav” with lectures and exhibits by eminent scientists and technologists. During the Mahotsav in 2022, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, announced institution of an annual award, Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award, for a young scientist with proven excellence, and promise of performance in future. The award, which will be handed out for the first time on 13 December 2023, carries a cash prize of five lakh rupees and a citation.

The Department of Science, Technology and Waste Management, State of Goa, invites applications for this year’s award from Indian scientists/ technologist below the age of 35 (as on 31 December 2022). The applications will be evaluated by an Expert Committee headed by Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission. The shortlisted candidates will be invited for a presentation before the committee. The candidates shall be judged on: (1) Impact of work done so far, as judged from research publications in high-impact journals, patents, and other measures. (2) A viable action plan for the future which may include research or application of the research for the benefit of India. The decision of the Expert Committee shall be final. Only one candidate shall be selected for the award each year.

The application should consist of the following items:
(a) Name of the candidate :
(b) Address, email, telephone number :
(c) Present Institute/ University/ Organization :
(d) Educational Qualifications beginning with the latest, and giving grade/percentage etc. wherever applicable.
(e) List research institutions / laboratories where the candidate has worked beginning with the latest.
(f) Proof of having not crossed 35 years as on 31st December 2022.
(g) An account of research carried out so far (including doctoral thesis) highlighting its impact and/or its applications (not more than 500 words).
(h) A future action plan and road map of intended work to achieve scientific, technological and social relevance to India’s progress. ( not more than 500 words)
(i) A letter of support from an institution or organization for the work proposed under (h).
(j) Two letters of recommendation from eminent scientists/ academicians who are familiar with the applicant’s work.
(k) A list of research papers published in refereed journals (Attach a maximum of five high quality research papers).
(l) List any recognition/awards from State/Central Government/reputed Institutions/International organizations for work done so far.

The application should be signed, and a soft copy of the full application should be emailed to: [email protected] before 15 September 2023. Each application will be acknowledged by email.
