Today on 24.08.2026, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Chief Justice (A), High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, accompanied by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Dhar, Judge High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (Administrative Judge for District Anantnag), inaugurated the newly constructed Lawyer’s Chambers at the District Court Complex, Anantnag. The inauguration marks an important step towards strengthening judicial infrastructure and providing improved working facilities to the members of the legal fraternity. The newly constructed Lawyers’ Chambers are expected to provide Advocates with a more conducive professional environment and facilitate their interaction with litigants and other stakeholders. Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Chief Justice highlighted the importance of providing adequate and modern infrastructure to members of the Bar and ensuring a conducive working environment for advocates and judicial officers. He underscored the role of a strong and well-equipped judicial infrastructure in facilitating efficient delivery of justice. His lordship stressed upon the young lawyers that the legal profession is not merely a means of earning the livelihood, it is a noble profession which carries with it a great responsibility towards the judiciary, society and the cause of justice. His lordship also highlighted the importance of professional/ legal ethics which must remain at the centre of legal practice and reminded the young lawyers that success in the legal profession is earned through hard work, perseverance and continued learning.

His lordship also emphasized on the vital role of the legal profession in upholding the rule of law and ensuring meaningful access to justice, his Lordship underscored the collective responsibility of the legal fraternity to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, integrity and discipline. His lordship expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated chambers would not only provide improved facilities and a better working environment for members of the Bar but would also strengthen the professional capacity of advocates and contribute towards the efficient, accessible and effective functioning of the justice delivery system.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Dhar, Hon’ble Administrative Judge for District Anantnag, while speaking on the occasion also emphasised the importance of the continuous development and upgradation of court infrastructure for ensuring accessible, efficient and people-oriented justice. He further underscored the need for all stakeholders in the justice delivery system to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, integrity and responsibility. Emphasising that the legal profession plays a vital role in the administration of justice, His Lordship highlighted the importance of maintaining the dignity and decorum of the institution, while ensuring that the interests of litigants and the cause of justice remain paramount. The inauguration of the lawyers’ chambers at District Court Anantnag is expected to provide improved facilities and a dedicated workspace for members of the Bar, thereby strengthening the overall functioning of the court complex.

A welcome address was delivered by Advocate Peer Shafiq, Acting President/Election Commissioner, Bar Association, Anantnag. This was followed by a keynote address by Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina, Hon’ble Principal District & Sessions Judge, Anantnag, highlighting the inauguration of the Lawyers’ Chambers as a significant milestone for the legal fraternity of Anantnag. He emphasized that a lawyer’s chamber is not merely a physical space, but an essential professional facility that provides advocates with a conducive environment for study, consultation, preparation of briefs and meaningful interaction with litigants. Such facilities enable members of the Bar to discharge their professional responsibilities with greater efficiency, dignity and commitment.

The vote of thanks was presented by Advocate Asif Ahmad Koka, extending heartfelt and deepest gratitude to the dignitaries for gracing the occasion. During the visit, Hon’ble the Chief Justice (A), accompanied by Hon’ble the Administrative Judge, also laid the foundation stone for the proposed Munsiff Court Complex at Dooru. The proposed complex is envisaged to further strengthen judicial infrastructure in the area and provide improved facilities to judicial officers, advocates and litigants. After laying the foundation stone the Hon’ble Chief Justice interacted with the members of Bar Association Dooru and members of civil society.

The programme was attended by Mr. M. K. Sharma, Registrar General, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Anantnag, Mr. Khurshid Ul Islam, Registrar Judicial, High Court Wing, Srinagar, Mr. Umesh Sharma, Registrar Computer(I.T), Mr. Jahangir Bakshi, Joint Registrar (Protocol), Mr. Amod Ashok Nagpure, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, besides Judicial Officers, Officers of the District Administration, members of the Bar Association Anantnag, staff members of the District Judiciary and District Legal Services Authority, and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of District Anantnag.

The occasion reflected the continued commitment of the Hon’ble High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh towards strengthening judicial infrastructure and ensuring accessible, efficient and litigant-friendly justice delivery for the people.

*DLSA Anantnag in collaboration with TLSC Shangus organised an awareness programme on the Forest Rights Act* , on 22/08/2026 at Chattabal Chittergul Shangus under the able guidance of Chairman DLSA Anantnag Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina, with the objective of creating awareness among the general public, particularly forest-dwelling communities, regarding their legal rights and entitlements under the Act.
During the programme, the participants were apprised about the important provisions of the Forest Rights Act, including the recognition and vesting of forest rights of eligible forest-dwelling Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers. The importance of filing claims through the prescribed procedure and the role of the concerned authorities in processing such claims were also explained.
The programme further focused on legal awareness, access to justice and protection of the rights of vulnerable sections of society. The participants were encouraged to approach the Legal Services Committee for free legal assistance and guidance in matters relating to their rights.
The programme concluded with an appeal to all concerned stakeholders to work collectively for effective implementation of the Forest Rights Act and to ensure that eligible beneficiaries are made aware of their rights and available legal remedies.

ANANTNAG - August 15, 2026- Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervor and enthusiasm today at the District Court Complex Anantnag and other peripheral courts across the District. To mark the momentous occasion, the Hon'ble Principal District and Sessions Judge Anantnag, Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina, hoisted the National Flag at District Headquarter/ Court Complex Anantnag.

The ceremonial program commenced with the Hon'ble PDJ hoisting the tricolor, which was immediately followed by a proud and unison rendition of the National Anthem. As part of the official proceedings, a ceremonial Guard of Honor was presented to the Hon'ble PDJ, adding to the solemnity and dignity of the event.

Following the flag hoisting, Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina addressed the gathering. In his inspiring speech, the Hon'ble PDJ paid rich tributes to the nation's freedom fighters, deeply recalling their supreme sacrifices and unrelenting struggles that paved the way for the country's independence. He further emphasized that Judiciary shall play its part by ensuring access to justice whereby the bar and the bench shall play the role of two faces of a coin. He added that both, the bar and the bench, shall ensure speedy disposal of cases.

The patriotic event witnessed the attendance of a large gathering from the legal fraternity. The ceremony took place in the distinguished presence of all Judicial Officers posted at the District Court Complex, Anantnag. Furthermore, Prosecuting Officers, esteemed members of the Bar, court staff, Para legal Volunteers and Legal Aid Defence Counsels were also present to jointly celebrate the spirit of freedom and democracy.

The event concluded with an exchange of greetings among the attendees, reflecting a shared sense of national pride and unity.

***District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag inaugurated the Volleyball tournament for Jail Inmates at District Jail Anantnag***.

Anantnag, August 13, 2026: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Anantnag, under the able guidance of the Hon’ble Pr. Sessions Judge/ Chairman, DLSA Anantnag Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina, inaugurated a Volleyball Tournament for the inmates of District Jail Anantnag in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Anantnag.
The tournament was aimed at promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness, discipline, team spirit and positive engagement among the jail inmates, besides providing them an opportunity for recreation and healthy interaction.
The tournament was kick-started by the Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Anantnag Mr. Mir Sayeem Qayoom, in presence of the Jail Superintendent , Officials of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, DLSA staff, PLVs and participating inmates. The Secretary, DLSA Anantnag, interacted with the inmates and encouraged them to actively participate in sports and other constructive activities.
The officials from the Department of Youth Services and Sports extended their cooperation in conducting the tournament and provided the necessary technical and sporting support. The inmates participated enthusiastically and displayed commendable sportsmanship, discipline and team spirit throughout the event.
The initiative reflects the commitment of DLSA Anantnag towards the welfare, rehabilitation and holistic development of persons in custody, in accordance with the principles of dignity, reform and social reintegration.
The event concluded on a positive note, with appreciation expressed to the District Jail Anantnag and the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Anantnag for their cooperation in making the tournament successful.

As per Calendar of activities issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority Anantnag in collaboration with TLSC VAILOO and Bijbehara conducted an awareness programme on the occasion of INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY. The programme focused on creating awareness among youth about their rights, responsibilities, legal awareness, and the importance of their active participation in society. The initiative aimed to empower young people with knowledge and encourage them to contribute positively to the community.

*DLSA Anantnag conducted 3rd UTRC meeting of the year 2026*

Anantnag, August 12, 2026: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag, under the aegis of Jammu& Kashmir Legal Services Authority, held its 3rd Quarterly Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting on August 12, 2026, at the District Court, Anantnag.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Anantnag. The meeting brought together officials from the judiciary, police, administration, and medical departments to discuss ways to ensure quick and fair trials for under trial prisoners.
The meeting was convened by Secretary DLSA Anantnag in compliance to the calendar of activities already issued by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
During the session, the committee reviewed five cases of under trial prisoners which were already identified by the office of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag through Legal Defense Aid Counsels (LADCs). Each case was discussed in detail to understand the situation of the individuals and to suggest steps for speeding up the legal process. The recommendations aimed at decongestion of the prisons by releasing the eligible prisoners under the categories already specified by NALSA.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tahir Khurshid Raina, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag (PD&SJ) stressed the importance of UTRC meetings in improving the justice system and protecting the rights of under trial prisoners (UTPs). He said that holding such meetings regularly is essential to ensure transparency, fairness, and efficiency in legal proceedings.
The UTRC meeting ended with a positive note wherein all the stakeholders present reaffirmed their commitment towards ensuring the Rights of Prisoners as given under Law and Legal Protection available to them is given topmost priority.
DLSA Anantnag continues to work for the protection of under trial prisoners’ rights, making sure they get speedy and fair trials. The UTRC meetings are an important step towards building a more just and efficient legal system.

Anantnag,01-08-2026, As per Plan of action for the month of August 2026, Under the insightful directions of Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge) Anantnag, Today on 01-08-2026, Special Lok adalat on Matrimonial Cases was held at District Court complex and Taluka Courts of District Anantnag. Each Court had identified Matrimonial cases for the Lok Adalat beforehand and same were placed before Five (05) different benches constituted for settlement in this Special Lok Adalat. Bench No.01 comprised of Mr. Sajad ur Rehman (Chief Judicial Magistrate Anantnag) and Mr. Arshad Aziz Qureshi, Munsiff JMIC Anantnag Bench No. 2 comprised of Mr. Rajeev Kumar Tadyal (Sub Judge Bijbehara) and Adv. Mohd Amin Dar Bench No.03 comprised of Mr. Altaf Ahmad Mir (Sub Judge Vailoo) and Adv. Nazir Ahmad Padder Bench No: 04 Comprised of Mr. Shyam Kumar (Munsiff/JMIC Aishmuqam) and Adv. Arfat (Bar President Pahalgam) Bench No.5 comprised of Mr. Fazal Ul Haq (Munsiff/ JMIC Shangus) and Adv. Showkat Ahmad Rather.
Nonetheless, a total number of 89 Matrimonial Cases were taken up for their amicable settlement, out of which 29 matters were settled.
