DC Anantnag chairs NCORD meeting, directs sustained action against drug menace
ANANTNAG, AUGUST 25:
Deputy Commissioner(DC) Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat (IAS), today chaired the 34th meeting of the Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) at the DC Office to review the measures being taken to combat drug abuse and strengthen enforcement and rehabilitation efforts across the district.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for greater inter-departmental coordination and sustained field-level action to effectively address the issue. He directed all departments to work in close coordination, particularly at identified drug-related hotspots, and ensure that vulnerable individuals are identified and connected with counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services, alongside strict enforcement action against those involved in the illegal drug trade. He further asked the Executive Officers of Municipal Committees and Executive Engineers of Flood Control & Irrigation and other concerned departments to conduct regular drives and remove cannabis plants growing along riverbanks, parks, roadsides and other public places.
The Tehsildars were directed to ensure the immediate destruction of illicit cannabis cultivation in their areas and to coordinate closely with the Police Department so that those involved in illegal cultivation are identified and proceeded against under law.
Dr. Bilal called for sustained monitoring, effective enforcement, awareness generation and rehabilitation measures to make the district drug-free, while urging all stakeholders to work collectively towards protecting the younger generation from substance abuse.
The meeting was informed about efforts being made by various departments and enforcement agencies to control the drug menace in the district. Review of the activities conducted under the 100 Days Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign as well as action taken on directions issued during previous meeting on was also held on the occasion. The departments and institutions briefed about the steps and measures taken since last meeting to tackle the drug menace and create mass awareness against it's drastic effects.
Principals of Government Degree Colleges informed the meeting that CCTV cameras have been installed in college campuses, while frisking and regular monitoring visits are being carried out to ensure a safe and drug-free environment for students.
The Excise Officer informed the chair that four FIRs have been registered against poppy cultivators, while regular field-monitoring teams have been deployed to identify and take action against illicit cultivation.
The Assistant Drug Controller apprised the chair that two medical licences have been cancelled for violations, reflecting strict action against violations of drug-control regulations.
Representatives of the Education Department informed the meeting that awareness programmes and counselling activities are being conducted at the school level. They further stated that schools under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir initiative are actively participating in the campaign against drug abuse.
Doctors from GMC Anantnag informed the meeting that more than 80 patients have been treated in the IPD, while the district currently has 20 rehabilitation beds available for persons affected by drug addiction.
The Chief Agriculture Officer informed the meeting that poppy and cannabis cultivation has been destroyed at several locations by constituted teams and that the process of identifying and destroying such cultivation is continuing.
The meeting was attended by the ADC, SP, ACR, College Principals, CAO, CAHO, District Excise Officer, Deputy DEPO, Tehsildars, Executive Engineers of Flood Control & Irrigation, Assistant Drug Controller, Medical Superintendent GMC Anantnag, CEO MC Anantnag, Executive Officers of Municipal Committees and other concerned officers.
