Shradhanjali

Shradhanjali Nature Makes An Offering of Her Beauty... Shradhanjali is a handicraft unit of Auroville, the International Township located in rural Tamil Nadu.

Since inception it’s goals have been:
To gather the wealth of the natural world as expressed through flowers and foliage and convert this into beautiful paper products in a conscious and caring way. At each stage, the manufacturing process is characterized by a conscious intention to work harmoniously with Nature. To generate wealth for the growth of Auroville by doing business in an ethical, cons

cious manner. Profits generated by Shradhanjali are channeled back into the community for its maintenance and development. To provide a pleasant, stimulating, enriching, educative and empowering working environment for the young village girls it employs.

*Do you know this flower?*

The Aparajita flower, also known as the Butterfly Pea.

It’s not just a beautiful addition to your garden or balcony—it’s a little bit of science and magic in a cup!

Brew the flowers into a vibrant blue tea, then squeeze in a little lemon and watch the colour change to a beautiful purple.
Nature gives magic.

_The spiritual significance given by the Mother is: “Radha’s consciousness”_

At a time when many places in the world face storms, as fault lines crack open and the sea of life is churned — how do find the music again? 🎶

Music is in its colourful notes and lilting harmonies, in its pulsating rhythms and silences.

Nature reminds us to slow down… and listen…

Shradhanjali was founded in Auroville in 1980.

It was a different time.
The landscape was barren.
The soil was red laterite with hot winds blowing the red dust across the plateau.
The tropical monsoons would wash away any topsoil into the ocean.
Water was a scarce and a precious commodity.

All tree saplings that were planted by our early Auroville pioneers had to be watered by hand and protected from hungry cows and goats.

The main means of transport was walking, cycling or bullock carts.

While regeneration of the soil and the land was the primary necessity, income generation for the growth of Auroville was also important.
Everyone put in their own resources and gave everything they had to this incredible (and somewhat crazy) experiment.

For Shradhanjali, it has been 46 years. Today, we grow all our flowers and plants organically in our own garden. We harvest rainwater, reuse grey water through drip irrigation, and run partially on solar energy.

Every time-intensive step — from growing to packaging — is done by hand, ensuring a minimal
environmental footprint and
honouring the value of hand work.

In today’s world crisis between development and taking care of the environment and people, the question is: what are our priorities?

We were glad to welcome the students and teachers from Shashvat Concept School, Maharashtra, to Shradhanjali, during their visit to explore Auroville.

They visited our workspace, learned about our company and discovered how we create handcrafted products using pressed flowers, leaves, and grasses.

Thank you for visiting us, and we wish you all the best for your onward journey of learning and exploration.

Rondeletia odorata is a species of flowering plant in the coffee family.
It is a shrub which attracts a variety of pollinators, including butterflies and hummingbirds and offers long-lasting blooms, providing vibrant color throughout the season.

The summer days lengthen and the summer rains bring much needed respite from the heat.

Magnificent hues of yellows and reds burst into bloom as trees share their colours.

‘There is a time for everything— a time to wither, a time to grow, and a time to blossom.’

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

The Making of Lampshades

It is a long work process in creating our colourful lampshades.

Every stage requires detailed step by step attention and time, culminating in a beautiful blend of colours, transparency, and motifs.
