Today, Padakshep, the Social Unit of Mahamaya Org., attempted to submit a letter to the Chairperson of Badarpur Municipality drawing attention to the deteriorating condition of the road and the serious dust-related problems along National Highway No. 6 passing through Badarpur Town.

Despite the rainy weather, the poor condition of the road and the continued high level of dust have become a major concern for pedestrians, residents, shopkeepers and commuters. The dust generated by passing vehicles significantly affects visibility and creates inconvenience and safety hazards, particularly for two-wheeler riders.

As the Chairperson was absent, the letter was submitted to the Executive Officer, Shri Sidhartha Dev Sarma, AUAS, Badarpur Municipality, requesting immediate necessary action, including regular watering of the road, especially during dry periods, to control dust and improve public safety.

We sincerely hope the concerned authority will take prompt action in the interest of the people of Badarpur.

📅 6–7 July 1947: Sylhet Referendum was held.

🗳️ Sylhet overall: Majority voted to join East Bengal (Pakistan).

📍 Karimganj: The vote was extremely close — 41,262 for East Bengal vs 40,536 for Assam.

📜 Radcliffe Boundary Award: Decided the final India–Pakistan boundary.

📅 17 August 1947: The boundary award was officially published.

🇮🇳 Patharkandi, Ratabari, Badarpur and part of Karimganj were retained in India.

🏛️ The Indian portion became part of Cachar District, Assam.

📅 1 July 1983: Karimganj became a separate district.

Key fact: Karimganj's Indian status was determined by the final boundary award, not simply by the Sylhet referendum result.
