Seminar on Drug Addiction, Its Prevention, and Control Held at Govt HKM Degree College Bandipora

Bandipora, May 16: A seminar addressing "Drug Addiction, its Prevention, and Control" was organized today collaboratively by District Drug De-Addiction Centre DDAC, Bandipora, J&K with NSS Unit of HKM Govt Degree College Bandipora, Department of Social Welfare Bandipora, District NCORD Cell Bandipora and IA - JKSWM. The event took place at the HKM Govt Degree College Bandipora.

Principal, HKM GDC Bandipora, Dr. (Prof) Masood Ahmad Malik, while extending warm welcome to the guests and participants, delivered an insightful presentation on drug addiction, discussing its prevention and control strategies. His address highlighted the critical need for comprehensive awareness and community involvement in tackling this pressing issue.

Mr Showkat Ahmad, Project Coordinator, DDAC shed light over dug abuse, drug addiction and De-Addiction methods. He briefed the audience about the present drug scenario and responsibilities over the communities.

Advocate Mudasir Wani, Counselor, DDAC Bandipora, provided a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the facilities, services, and treatment options available at the DDAC. This presentation aimed to educate attendees about the resources and support mechanisms in place to combat drug addiction by District Administration Bandipora.

Ms. Sameena Shafi, Nurse, DDAC, elaborated on the medical implications of drug abuse and the importance of de-addiction processes. Her talk focused on the health risks associated with substance abuse and the medical treatments available to those seeking help.

Mr. Jawahar Ahmad, Outreach Worker (ORW), DDAC, emphasized the collective role of individuals, students, teachers, institutions, and society in combating drug abuse. His address underscored the importance of community engagement and proactive measures in preventing addiction.

During the event, posters and pamphlets detailing the services and facilities offered by DDAC were distributed among the participants and students. This initiative aimed to spread awareness and provide information on available support systems.

The team from DDAC expressed gratitude to Principal, GDC Bandipora, Dr. (Prof) Masood Ahmad Malik for his coordination and support, which were pivotal in ensuring the success of the seminar. The event was hosted by HKM GDC student Mehrul Nisa, whose melodious anchoring added a special touch to the proceedings.

A significant number of students, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, attended the seminar, reflecting the community's commitment to addressing and mitigating drug addiction.

Prof (Dr) Irshad Ahamd, HOD Physics, Incharge NSS Unit, HKM GDC Bandipora, presented a warm vote of thanks to all the organisers and participants and extended gratitude to District Administration Bandipora for collective efforts to combat drug menace.

Youth have to take a lead role in the fight against drug addiction: Shakeel Ul Rehman

Bandipora 22 Jan: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shakeel Ul Rehman Rather on Monday emphasized that the youth have to take a lead role in the fight against drug addiction and assured every possible step to all such initiatives aiming to ensure a drug-free society.
He was speaking at a Youth Convention organised by Youth Federation Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration, Bandipora, at Conference Hall, Mini-Secretariat, Bandipora.
The deputy commissioner said that the menace of drug addiction has shaken the foundations of the society, and itโ€™s the responsibility of every single individual to stand up against this menace. He further said the youth have to take a leading role as they are the real targets of this menace, and only they can take this fight heads on.
DC Rather also discussed various issues related to menace of drug addiction, areas of concern, age group of addicts, hot spots of drug peddling, abuse, besides, cultivation of illicit poppy and cannabis in the district.

DC highlighted the need for coordinated efforts between Government agencies, healthcare providers, civil society organizations, and community leaders to effectively address the drug problem.

Deputy Commissioner appreciated the Youth Federation for organising the program and assured every possible help from the government to eradicate the menace. He urged the youths to work at a localised level to deal with the menace.

The program was also attended by ACR Shabir Wani, Tehsildar Bandipora Sheikh Tariq.

On the occasion President Youth Federation Bandipora and Brand Ambassador Nasha Mukht Bharat Faisal Ali Dar unveiled the activity calendar of the year 2024 and said that the year will be celebrated as โ€œDrug Free Bandiporaโ€. He said different activities will be taken up under the banner, including sports activities, seminars, counseling sessions, and awareness programs besides other activities to engage the youth in productive activities. He said the main thrust will be on Sports, culture, and tourism to engage the youth and sensitize them about the ill effects of drug abuse.
He also highlighted the role of various stakeholders in addressing the drug crisis, including law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals, educators, parents, and religious heads.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration and a unified approach in order to combat the drug menace effectively.

On the occasion, the participants also undertook pledge resolving their efforts against drug menace and to make Bandipora a drug free district.

Bandipora, September 24:- The District Drug De-Addiction Centre DDAC, Bandipora, J&K took a significant step in raising awareness and showcasing its services during a two-day Book Fair event held on September 21 and 22, 2023. The event, hosted at the International Delhi Public School Bandipora, was an opportunity for DDAC to reach out to a diverse audience and provide valuable information about its mission and offerings.

Representatives of DDAC, Mr. Showkat Ahmad, PC, and Mr. Aamir Sajad, Supervisor, manned the DDAC Stall at the exhibition. Their presence was instrumental in educating visitors about the various facilities and services available at DDAC Bandipora.

The DDAC in the Book Fair garnered attention from notable visitors, including Deputy Commissioner Dr. Owais Ahmed, IAS, JDP Imtiyaz Ahmad, officials from the DC office, students from various educational institutions, local visitors, and teachers from participating schools. These visitors were offered informative materials, such as pamphlets, which highlighted the services provided by DDAC.

Established as a collaboration between the District Administration, Bandipora, and the Social Welfare Department, Kashmir, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, DDAC is a crucial initiative under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) Scheme initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The management of the centre falls under the capable hands of the dedicated organization, J&K Students Welfare Mission.

As stated during the exhibition, the primary objective of DDAC is to offer comprehensive services to individuals battling drug addiction. These services encompass admission and shelter facilities, nutrition support, stress management, awareness campaigns, counselling, stabilization, education, prevention strategies, detoxification, treatment options, rehabilitation programs, and a focus on the complete recovery of individuals. The centre provides both indoor and outdoor patient treatment facilities to cater to varying needs.

DDAC is designed to create a supportive and nurturing environment for patients embarking on their recovery journey. The centre boasts dedicated sections, including administrative facilities, medical blocks, counselling rooms, a detoxification ward, general ward, a well-stocked library, and recreational areas. A team of dedicated professionals, including male and female counsellors, doctors, trained nurses, and medical staff, is committed to delivering quality care to each individual.

Recognizing that recovery is a gradual process requiring patience and determination from both patients and their families, DDAC offers various treatment modalities, including behavioral therapy and withdrawal therapy. The emphasis is on the Whole Person Recovery (WPR) strategy, with the ultimate goal of enabling patients to confidently reintegrate into their families and communities as productive and healthy individuals.

The District Drug De-Addiction Centre in Bandipora stands as a testament to the collective determination to create a healthier and more vibrant community. It is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting individuals on their journey towards recovery and fostering a brighter future for the district.

As part of their outreach efforts, pamphlets were also distributed to visitors, ensuring that valuable information about DDAC's services reaches a broader audience.
