Protect Faith, Not Just Optics: Ensure Safety and Dignity for Christian Communities

Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Christmas service at the Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi (Dec 25), continuing reports of harassment and disruption faced by Christians in different states risk making such gestures appear symbolic when communities still fear intimidation on the ground.

From Delhi and Haridwar to Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Kerala — families celebrating peacefully have reported obstruction and pressure. This is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy.

Will the government ensure that every citizen can celebrate their faith safely — not just symbolically, but in reality?

SDPI urges firm rule-of-law action against any violence, accountability for those who incite hatred, and sincere commitment to safeguarding India’s plural and secular ethos.
