Farmers of Kandi Belt Baramulla Still Waiting for Justice
It has been two to three months since the devastating hailstorm hit the Kandi belt of Baramulla, causing extensive damage to fruit orchards and crops. Yet, for many affected farmers, the pain of that destruction is still very much alive.
In a matter of minutes, months of hard work, investment and hope were wiped out. For families whose livelihoods depend almost entirely on their orchards and agricultural produce, this was not just crop damage—it was a serious economic setback.
What is deeply disappointing is that even after months have passed, the affected farmers continue to feel ignored and left to fend for themselves. The administration's response on the ground has not reflected the scale of the devastation. Many farmers are still waiting for proper field assessments, official attention and meaningful relief.
The Kandi belt of Baramulla has a large farming and horticulture-dependent population. When their crops and orchards suffer, the impact goes far beyond individual households—it affects the entire rural economy.
The administration must not allow this issue to fade with time.
A proper assessment of the hailstorm damage must be completed, affected farmers must be identified, and eligible compensation and relief must be provided without further delay.
Farmers are not asking for charity. They are asking for justice, timely assistance and recognition of the losses they have endured.
Two to three months have already passed. How much longer are the farmers expected to wait?
